Big Block Chevy Is The Same As Our Six

I was told that a BBC fuel pump block off plate was the same as our engine and sure enough, it is. I'm switching to an electronic fuel pump and rather than fab one up, I picked this up at the Autozone cheap, clean and chrome. Nice tip!

Don't totally quote me on this, but awhile back while working as a CD for Advance some guy came in looking for a mechanica fuel pump gasket for a tractor.

After playing around I found one that matched up to his. To be sure I ran afew more ideas through the computer and discovered several mechanical fuel pumps for GM & Ford trucks were the same part number.

The parts counter guy told me today when I bought this block off plate that Ford used the Delco-Remy (GM) designed fuel pumps a lot early on as they were available to outside vendors at a minimum price versus tooling there own.

Hey LaGrasta,
I was considering doing the electric fuel pump swap also,
What pump did you use and where did you mount it??? By the tank or up front ???
I read a site somewhere that talks about running a Carter 4070 pump with 32/36 or 5200 carbs.
The Carter pump puts out 72 GPH at only 4-6 PSI. So no regulator is needed.
Thanks GLEN

Well just from looks it does seem to fit :?

even the 2.3L uses that...replaced my stock steal one with a chrome one.

I am thinking of going electric mounted at the rar and gutting a stock pump and keeping it to look stock on the car....just run a steel line inside the gutted pump...

when you say 2.3, are you refering to the 2.3 OHC found in mustangs, rangers, and afew other cars or the 2.3 OHV found in tempo's and topaz's?

Mine is all mounted up, but I have yet to drive it this way. The rear leaf springs and bushings are being replaced and until I can finish that, I can't back it out of my garage. Hopefully, this weekend that can happen.

I mounted an inexpensive canister type pump (it looks like a large fuel filter) on the frame rail, driver's side, just under the steering box. I then ran a steel line up the fire wall and over to the carb.

You're supposed to wire it to the oil pressure switch so if the car stops running, but the ignition (key) is still on, the pump will not continue to run. My mounting location is only inches from that switch. Of course you can ground it anywhere.

That sucks. I fabricated my own block-off out of steel plate and even cut my own gasket. Waste of time- I guess my first reaction is just to go d.i.y..

For what it's worth, I switched to an electric pump when my fuel pump went out for the second time and dumped gas into my oil pan- for the second time. Don't let this happen to you- it is especially common if you have a regulator that cranks down to 2psi for a weber carb- seems to put strain on the fuel pump.

Where do you get that oil pressure switch? Do you tee it off of the same place the oil pressure gauge sensor screws it?

By the way- as I am polishing my water neck- it's aluminum and therefore naturally drawn to my polisher- the water neck doesn't look too specific either. Does anyone know of a comon one that would fit- SBF maybe? I could learn from my mistake and spring 10.00 for a new chrome one one maybe.
