budget turbo setup

yea id agree with ya on that one lean it out and starve the enigne not a good thing probably get detonation that way

Wouldn't an electric fuel pump be easier fix? Just wondering, this fuel pump mod sounds like more work then it's worth.

It's a good question, but for a carb'd engine the answer is usually no. That's because in a blow-thru application, the boost is pushing down on the fuel in the carb bowl(s), choking it off to the engine. Any fuel pump must overcome the boost pressure without flooding the engine, so unless you have a boost-sensitive electric pump, you have the same problem as you do with a mechanical pump. It's just that solving it for a mechanical pump is usually easier.

On EFI engines, it really isn't much of a problem at "normal" boost levels, since the fuel pump is putting out ~20 psi minimum. Even there for the best results, a boost-sensitive electric pump is often used to keep the fuel pressure 20-60 psi higher than the boost pressure. That way good atomization of the fuel is ensured no matter the boost level.

All of this just goes to illustrate why I favor draw-thru turbos for carb'd engines. You avoid all this complication and give up virtually nothing in return at modest boost levels (up to ~8 psi).

also as you produce more power and more boost the demand for fuel is greater at a higher boost . so if you boost the mech fuel pump more fuel will be going thorugh as the boost pressure increases. id still go with a mech fuel pump for a blow thourgh carb. but like 54ford said draw thourgh would be eaiser but they are harder to find i think and more expensive. you just have to put ina solid float and stop the vacuum to the choke horn so air doesnt escape through there.

bad news fellas, my 2.3l turbo is all seized up. god @#$^&^$@@#$%@#$ but oh well all this talk gone to waste. i will find another . i might upgrade to the GN turbo so the boost will be mor effeciant for my motor. the tbird has been sitting for a while 10 years i think so that would explain it.

Yep, the draw-thru turbo from an early GN is the way to go. It is already set up for a draw-thru and will work well with a 200-250. The are cheap, too, as no one wants them.
