build up questions

Sorry for the basic questions
First the stats 66 Mustang 200, 68 block, 170 head 1961, c4 tranny

I am going to rebuild the top end. This is my plan

Install a rebuilt flat top log head, 1969, with the 1 3/4 carb hole and larger intake valves

Duraspark conversion

Holley 5200 2bbl carb

headers with a Dynomax muffler

Would it be easier to do the duraspark conversion with the head off?
If so what am I looking for to determine when the number one cylinder is at TDC?

Is it possible/easier to install the headers on the cylinder head before installing the head?

Which is the best method of installing the port divider Welding, Epoxy?

Which carb adapter/linkage kit is best Clifford or Stovebolt?

As always thanks for the help

Make sure to double check your compression ratio by measuring everything before you bolt it on the new motor. The newer head most likely has larger combustion chambers.

More spark and more air, sounds like a good combination

Loud pipes save lives

nah, since the distributor is on the opposite side of the engine as the intake/exhaust there is no issue

I'm skipping this one

Install the head first, this is a six cylinder, lots of space to drop it into the engine bay after bolting the head on.

if you have an option weld it

aftermarket cable would be best, stovebolt would work

For the #1 TDC:

Turn the crank until your timing pointer lines up at 12°BTDC. If it is #1 compression stroke, both pushrods will be the same tip height off the block deck. Check that #6 has unequal heights off the block deck in this same position.

Should these two be the "wrong way around", turn the crank 360° and check again. That ought to nail it.

If you have the head off just confirm that your timing mark is correct before you put it back together. Head off with a dial indicator is the easiest way to confirm TDC. I wouldnt take a head off just for that but if its off anyway might as well check it.

Like the others have said CC your prospective head before you get much (if any) work done to it (and know the CC's of your bottom combo). I have 2 heads with the same casting numbers that are over 20cc's differnt so I now have $200 into a half reworked head that will give me 7.2:1 compression with my current bottom end that I cant afford to change at this time. Going to leave that one on the shelf and save it for the next rebuild.
