Butterfly's Not opening all the way

Here is my problem. In order to get the carb to open all the way I have to have the gas pedal so high that it's not drivable. When I set the linkage up so the gas pedal is in a reasonable position the travel down to the floor isn't enough to open the butterfly's all the way. I've had this problem since the install of the aussie head and holley 500cfm 2bbl. At first I was just happy to drive my car again but that buzz is over and I want to feel the full affect of the mods made to the motor. Currently with the pedal mashed to the floor the butterfly's open about 1/2 way.

The linkage works good and the pedal is at a good position I just need it to pull the cable about twice the distance the pedal travels if that makes anysense.

The butterfly's are sticking or anything like that the open all the way freely by hand. I just need to pull the cable father.

Any ides are greatly apreciated. Thanks.

I just got done workin on mine last night. I dont have the aus head, but I have a cable linkage and a 500cfm holley. My pedal is pretty hight now, but I like it there. took her for a test drive and spun the tires thru first up to 4500rpm then screamed em into second. I liiiiiike the difference!!! Im not sure how to get it where the pedal is low and the linkage travels far enough to open all the way tho. We tried and had no luck.

Let me retype the last two sentences in my original post.

The butterfly's are not sticking they open all the way freely by hand. I just need to pull the cable farther.

Any ideas are greatly apreciated. Thanks.

That might make more sense.

66sprint, you don't have any problems opening the butterfly's all the way with the cable and holley 500?

Have you checked to make sure they open all the way with the pedal to the floor?

Two ways to fix this:

1) Use longer bolts and install spacers (8-12 washers) between the pedal and the firewall. This won´t raise the pedal height, but moving it 3/4¨ away (or more) from the firewall will give it a little more travel.

2) At the carburetor, fit the ball stud where the cable attaches closer to the center of the carb´s throttle shaft. The same amount of pull will open the carb farther and faster.

Had the same prob. on the cable w/ the bronco. I simply tied a knot in the cable where it hooks into the upper part of the pedal. But make sure this doesn't leave the butterfly open when the pedal isn't depressed. Good luck.

Hindle,
I did have problems, in fact, I was only seeing about 75-80% opening when the pedal was floored. I took the cable off and cut it a little then adjusted it a bit to get the pedal a little higher (it was litterally an inch or two from the floor, very little travel at all) and had a buddy check the butteryflies. There is no possible way for those butterflies to open any further.
