Ok when I accelerate from low rpm with half throttle my car feels sluggish. I was wondering is this due to the 600 holley which runs slightly rich or could it be that the accelerator pump is giving too much fuel? or could it be that I have no vacuum advance?

I am trying to learn about this stuff and I was wondering if having vacuum advance would benefit me?

Am I correct in assuming that vacuum advance is only used for light throttle applications? Why and what does this benefit? Does advancing the timing cause extra heat or was that retarding that causes the exhaust to glow red at idle?

at the moment i am not greatly concerned as I just change back to a lower gear and hammer it but in traffic I feel that it may make the car drive like a pig. Sorry if this sounds like I know nothing but we all have to learn from someone.

Thanks Aaron

are you saying that you don't have the vacuum advance hooked up?
if not, do so, it'll make a world of difference in many areas

as for it being sluggish... i dunno, could be a number of things

it is hocked up it just does not work. when i suck or blow when timing light is on it does not change from about 8 deg at 1000rpm(set on a dyno). so should i get it fixed then if so what is involved?

thanks Aaron
