Carb choke question

I just got my new jet hot coated headers from Mike and they look great. I don't want to ditch my pony carb 110 just yet, but will have to go electric or manual on the choke. Electric would be easier if there is an electric choke for the 1100. Anybody got any info on this (part nos. etc.)

You can fab a choke riser from a piece of soft aluminum or copper. Connect it to the carb with a flared coupling and then wrap it around on of the tubes three or four times. You could put a little filter on the open end if you want to avoid contamination, but the original manifold/tube didn't have this.
There is also a little crescent shaped tin hat you can buy at speed shops. It is clamped to an exhaust tube and a tube similar to the stock tube goes up to the choke pull off. You could also use a manual pull off. I live in SoCal and I really don't even need a choke after I got the electronic ignition.

Just found an item from Jegs for a universal "choke stove kit." Only $14 and sounds like it would do the trick. Anyone tried this method for carb heat?

Well, even though you found a way to use the riser tube choke, I have my opinions on the original question.

Manual chokes all the way! Well, at least if you drive in the cold weather. My holley 390-4V carb has an electric choke that will soon be swapped for manual. Long and short of it is this. The electric choke I've found to be too finicky. If the temp is below 75* and the car is shut off for more then 10 minutes, the choke closes. That may be a result of the cooling system being new and the coated headers keeping it cooler in there now, but it's annoying. And forget driving down the highway when it's below 50*. at 70 MPH at 50*F the choke gets cooled down faster then it warms up from the heater element. It ends up closing even after the engine is normal operating temp.

Manual choke will allow me to adjust to the temps as needed. I've had them in the past and my only real obstacle is my wife as she's afraid of manaul chokes but I'll get her onboard and then swap it out.

Just make sure she doesn't pull the choke out and hang her purse on it. That kills the road milage.

I am currently running a manual choke- I prefer it becasue it is infinately adjustable. But I did use a "choke kit" from the local speed shop and it worked fine. You bend the aluminum tube and run it along the manifold and put the end in a little metal chamber that stays warm. I think it would be better to place towards the rear of the manifold (not in the front as I have it pictured) since there is less air flow in the back and I think it may be warmer. Installed the Choke Stove kit from Jegs. Works great. I really did not want to hassle with changing to a manual choke because the automatic choke was working fine and I plan to move to a different carb later anyway when I install a new head.
