Hey you experts, i need your help. just recently i've been driving my car around and when i took off from a red light, i had just barely pushed the gas pedal, and my car went crazy. The car ran as if i had punched it all the way. When i got home i looked at my engine and some possible causes. I trhough maybe the throtlle got stuck so i filed down a little bit of the manifold of. That was the only thing that could have been the problem in my mind. Today it did it again. Could it be the carb? Is my carb bad? Does it need to be adjusted? It's a manual choke autolite. any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Check for broken motor mounts. A broken mount can cause the motor to tilt and jerk the throttle wide open.

Snowy, my carb did the same thing. Every once in a while my throttle would stick and scare the heck out of me. I checked the linkage etc. and could not find the problem. I finally took the carb off, it was a carter yfa, and I found that if I held on to the throttle linkage arm, opened the throttle plate a bit, and pushed it over toward the opposite side at the same time the throttle plate would bind in the bore and stick the throttle. It would only do it sometimes under certain conditions but there were marks on the side of the bore showing where the throttle plate had been binding. I suppose the bushings were worn out so I replaced the carb base. One more thing to check if the rest check out ok. good luck....Marlin
