I have a 37 Chevy that I want to put a turbod 6 into, either a 235, 250, or 292. I was wondering what a good choice on a turbo would be with a Holley 2bbl, midrange cam, worked head? Do any companies make a turbo header or is that a custom build piece? I kno its Chevy stuff, but I was told this is the place to go for tubo sixes.

Not trying to chase you awayor anything (we take pity on poor Ch**y owners and try to show them the error of their ways) but the best place on the web of which I know to discuss building Ch**y I6s is www.inliners.org.

Please feel free to hang out here as well, we won't abuse you.

what is the purpose of this motor build? strip? street? off road? Truck? car? more details are needed to help you size for a turbo.

I'll check out inliners, the car is going to be a street car with the occasional trip to the strip. Its gonna have a 5 speed behind the motor.

For a street motor a 292 should take the same turbo as a 300, a small-trimmed T04 or equal. The 235 or 250 would probably take a large trimmed T03 or a small T04 if you're going to run a lot of boost or higher RPM. Just my beast guess. You really need to plot your airflow on the compressor maps and see.

I would lean away from the stovebolt 216/235 series and lean towards the 230/250 series. The 292 is a monster. You would want to make sure it fits under the hood.

I wish you lived in Texas, I have a fresh rebuilt chevy 250 with a T-5 trans from a Firebird behind it that I need to find a new home for. Wanna guess on shipping charges to MD?

Oh yeah.....I wrote a FAQ (look above at the top of the forum), you might want to read it. Hope it helps!

that faq is great, lot of good stuff in there. I know the 235 is a direct bolt in, the 250 requires a shorter water pump and the 292 is what i really want but that is a monster. I have a 292 in a 68 C20, fb71 has rode in it. I wish i had more time and a lil more money rite now. Id love to head out to texas. How much you asking for it all? Is it a stock rebuild?

Stock rebuild, I think he got it from NAPA.
The T-5 trans is from a '89 Firebird, IIRC.
Open to offers.

I know this is a bit expeinsive, but it should be a good peice coming from this company.

I IMHO you would be better off going with a small T/4 based turbo, say like a GT61, GT35 (basically the same turbo's) instead of a little T/3 turbo that is mainly used on stock 4cly engine. You will have much better tunability, drivability & durability if you dont stuff to small of a turbo on your engine. Plus you will be able to get by without a intercooler & just use pump gas for a pretty good level of performance.
