Choosing a cam for a supercharged engine?

I'm trying to get all the plans ironed out for my supercharged 300 build. I am too the point where I'm trying to decide on a camshaft. I'm going to run an Eaton M112 ( Lightning ) supercharger. Before deciding on the supercharger I was going to run a Comp Cams 268H camshaft. But now with the supercharger I'm not sure if that would still be a good choice.

I know with a turbocharger you want a small duration cam. Does this also apply for a supercharger?

Anyone have any ideas?

You want lots of lift and as little overlap as you can get. You need the lift to allow the greater airflow and the reduced overlap to keep from wasting boost by blowing ti straight through the engine. This is one area where the U-flow head of the 300 may actually help.

At one time Cliffy offered an EFI-specific 268(?)° cam for the 300 ground on a 114° LCA. I think they've dropped it though. You may want to talk to some of the grinders about a custom cam. Both Crower and Clay Smith actively support special projects

Thanks for the info, that's what I was afraid of.

Lots of lift and little overlap. Wouldn't a roller cam be much better for this then a flat tappet?

Not necessarily. The goal is to let the boost do the work. The fortunate thing about a positive displacement blower is that it lifts and extends the torque and hp curves; so if the cam stops making power at 4500 normally aspirated, under boost it may go another 1000 rpms or so. Save the money for all the tires you are going to shred with all that torque!

My opinion, bulletcams.com, best service of all that I dealt with, have lots of info ready for them and they will grind you a cam for 175. Not all the push one, push 2, a real live pesron.

You can run a turbo cam with a supercharger, it's just that in this day and age getting something that is optimized and specific for a particular combo is not really expensive anymore. Mike over at Jones Cam Designs (704-489-2449) made a turbo cam for a 351W combo that I was going to put together and his reputation with the OEMs and racing world is solid.

I wouldn't get too cute about the camshaft, except as Fordman75 posted , the lift is where you get the gains.
