When I take my mustang out in the summer,I can only drive for a while before the temp gauge starts to rise like crazy. It has a stock 170.What are the best solutions?

Check termostat, radiator cap, belt tension, coolant level and condition.

If all ok check radiator for blockages, crushed or colapsed hoses.
Check water pump out put.

What speeds does it overheat at:

Stop
10-40
or 55-70?

If you are everheating at a stop...check the thermostat and water pump and consider buying a better fan.

If 10-40 MPH, check your hoses and flush your system

55-70 Check your radiator for flow (take it to a shop to have it flushed or replace it with a 3 row).

8) do the other gauges go bonkers as well? if so then start with the instrument voltage regulator. if not the above advice stands.

He brings up a good point...do all of your measurements with a mechanical temperature gauge. The sending unit may be off. I had one that 175* was just above cold...my current one 175* is right in the center of the gauge.
