Dividing a log

Finding myself with plenty of idle time all of a sudden, I began thinking about a two carb (HW) set up with the 200. I remember someone suggesting that the log be split in two for this. Would it be feasible to cut a slot through the middle of the log, slide a plate in there and weld it up? I'm not sure you would be able to seal it all the around. Would that pose a problem? I want to say that splitting the intake had something to do with the pulses in the log. Maybe this is something for the Hardcore forum?

i think that grinding the slots for the plate is a good thing to do since that will prevent the plate from getting sucked in either direction...some of that putty weld (i think its called PC-7) that the guys use for the exhaust port divider should work good, but u might not want to take the chance of it becoming brittle and cracking and getting sucked into the intake..welding it seems to be the best thing...a normal weld doesnt stick to cast iron right? then u definately would not be able to seal it all the way around...but by welding it u can certainly get rid of the worst of the leaks...i dont think it will matter too much if the seal isnt perfect on the inside of the log...just make sure that everything else is sealed good to prevent leaks on the outside.

you need some sort of equalization between the two sections, i think a 1/4" - 1/2" pipe has been said to be enough
i'm not even sure if there's enough room there to seperate it well enough, why not just mill the head to accept two carbs? look up X's post on the "twin-duction" system, his idea was to use two TBI units, but there's no real reason it can't be done with two 2bbls

and from what i remember of high school shop, you can weld onto cast iron, you just need to do it a different way than other metals

so if u were to drill a hole about that size in the plate then u should be fine? wouldnt that sorta defeat the purpose of the plate? or would it reduce the 'turbulance' in the middle unused area which would allow better throttle response or whatnot. i think he is talking about flattening out the head to accept 2 1bbl carbs above the 2nd and 5th combustion chamber, the exesting center piece would probbly be low enough to be out of the way so he could use the existing bolt holes to bolt on a blockoff plate after he's done the divider plate..

what kind of different technique for welding to cast iron?...can u use a normal mig or stick welder?

Same weld equipment just LOTS of pre-heat and post-heat. Takes a different rod too IIRC. Ask your local Lincoln dealer, they have access to very good tech support.

Trueslayer is on track with what I'm thinking. As far as equalization, I remember a post on that too. It was for a 300 manifold (3 x 1) I think. Hmm, seems to me that Mustang Geezer did something with this awhile back too. I'll research his web page and see what I find. Unfortunately I'm not smart enough to know WHY this would be done, I just remember discussion on it  Dangerous, dangerous!!
