dizzy question

I have never removed the diz on my car, and it runs well, but I think the rotor is off tooth. It doesn't line up directly centered at the pickup magnet.
If I pull it up to re-install, do I have to turn the oil pump shaft as well?
Read something about that somewhere but need to know!

It won't make any difference. The pulse is generated by the changing magnetic field; that is when the rotor has approached, then passed the pickup pole.

No need to worry.

Well, there's a bit more to it.
I have an uneven idle, flucuates about 25-50rpm or so.
I thought I would check the gear for wear since I have checked the vacuum and fuel lines, plugs, cleaned connections, etc.
It might be a valve train issue as well, was running quite hot for a while, and might have burned/worn something up top.
When I come off speed to a stop the idle is steady for about 5-15 seconds, and then it starts becoming a little huffy.
