draw through or blow through?

What is the best set up for a turbo on the 250 six? Draw through seems best because the carb would mount in front of the turbo [ like a weber side draft] and not be pressurized. I am considering this for my 71 maverick with a 250 and 4 speed. Any suggestions? Thanks Mark

Depends on how much power you want. Draw through generally support less power. Also, draw through is a bulky package.

Im not looking for huge power, just enough to make it interesting. This will be a daily driver. I have the skills and a good welder to fab the parts. I would like to use a weber side draft. Thanks for the input, any other is welcomed!

I guess if you are set on that specific carb then draw through. I would think it would be much easier to go with the blow through unless you are starting with something like a gn draw through or something similar. But that also goes along with the carburetor choice and how much you want to do as far as headwork goes. I am pretty much sold on blowthrough but draw through has it pros.

just use the compleate turbo setup from a Buick 231 Carb'd turbo engine, they use a special 550 CFM Qjet with a water heated ( for winter driving ) carb plenum that bolts right to the turbo, grantid they do have a wacked outlet that bolts to the buick intake manifold, but could easilly be mod'd.

I used to race a carbed drawthrough Pinto and I bought VW turbo parts .

one of the things you notice is the guys running blow tend to run smaller carbs than the Draw guys....and theirs a fear of Back firing but I think its just a sales tactic. Ive done more damage skipping gears with NOS.

Hi FrankBoss.The draw through talk about backfires IS NOT just sales talk.I`v seem the results.It ain`t pretty.Hood and entire induction system was GONE.

Don't forget the most important thing when going draw-through -
the compressor seal.

You will need to pay a turbo rebuilder to make sure you have a good example of the proper compressor seal, or manifold vacuum will suck massive amounts of oil into the intake.

Buick never really did fix the problem, which is why there are nearly zero examples of early 80's carbed turbo Buick 231's running around.
