Today I had time to finish installing the dui but now my car won't start. One weird thing happen while installing the dui was that when I took it out the oil shaft came up with that was weird but anyways back to the problem my car not starting. It cranks over but it won't fire up I did whole tdc thing still no go I was wondering if I had my firing order wrong because I just look at my old dizzy cap and followed those # on the dui dizzy cap. any suggestion

When you install the new DUI, you can "set" which post is #1. The easiest thing to do is to set the motor at top dead center (TDC) on the number one cylinder. Then, drop the DUI in. Install the rotor. Whichever post the rotor is pointing to is now your number one cylinder on the distributor cap. Connect the wire from this post to the spark plug in number one cylinder. Then, in a clockwise direction, connect the next one to 5, then 3, then 6, then 2 then 4.

If you still can't get vehicle to start, you may be out 180 degrees on the stroke. Let us know and we'll help you fix that problem.

Q.
- The oil shaft dropped back in and locked OK?
- Does the car make funny noises when you turn it over like back firing, farting, burping? I'm serious.
- Do you have spark?

You will probably need to provide more information for anyone to help.

Well the oil shaft did drop back in and I think its lock because I can turn it freely. No it does not make any funny noises when you turn it over like back firing, farting, burping. I think I have spark because the dui dizzy cap is hot when I turn the key.

Check the 3 wires that go into the cap, I had one that did not seat and was not making a connection.

Cap should not be hot. Did you accidentally hook the power to the Tach terminal? That would certainly make it hot if you did that instead of to the battery terminal.

no its clip to the batt post. one more thing i just screw the hot wire to the back of my ignition switch is that ok

Did you check to make sure you have the firing order correct as I indicated above?

First, you need to make sure you are getting the 12 volts to the distributor. Should be easy enough - turn your key on and then put a test light or multimeter on the end of the wire that you are connecting to the battery terminal on the distributor. This will tell you if you are getting power to the distributor.

Once you confirm that you are getting power, make sure you have the proper firing order as I indicated. IF you just made the wire connection the same as the original distributor cap without verifying that number 1 was still the same as before, then it won't start. Let us know what you find out.

Ok guys I got to thank u all again and this dui dizzy is amazing  . The two problems I was having were 1. I didn’t have a correct 12 volt source so what I did was I just connected batt post from the dui to my starter solenoid but when I did that I can`t turn my car off lol guess am going to have wire 1 wire to ignition switch and one to my starter solenoid so I can turn my car off. 2. My timing was 180 off but overall I got it. The only thing I need to do is wire it correctly so I can turn my car off without disconnect it from the starter solenoid. :D :D :D

Congrats! Hopefully you can find another 12V wire that is hot to tap into. Here is a good electrical schematic that might help.

1 question can I splice the wire from the dui batt wire twice one to my ignition switch and one to the starter solenoid

12V-15A Weatherproof Relay (such as a headlight relay from any parts store or Radio Shack)

15A, 20A, 30A, 40A, really doesn't matter. The DUI only pulls 3A.

Here's an MSD relay, and a Holley relay, from Summit.

Or you can get them at any parts store for about $6 bucks.

What is the purpose of the relay? Is it to be able to run a hot wire straight off the battery? I found a 12volt wire that is hot only when key is on and run it right to the distributor. Am I missing something by not using the relay?
