Electric Fan Installed

So I've installed an electric fan and I have test drove the car. I didn't get WOW effect when I hit the gas but it does feel like it's accelerating a bit harder. Nothing drastic like others have gotten from their electric fan installs. I like the fan but I think when it starts to get hotter I will have to go with a pusher as the larger pullers are to deep to fit between my rad and water pump pulley.

Anyway, I'm one step closer then before!!

i went with a 16" SPAL ultra thin (2.05") BUT that was STILL too thick to fit directly in front of the WP pulley with my new radiator (3 core by MODINE)...so I offset the entire radiator to the driver's side a bit. 8) Since I'm not trying to use the fan to pull the air through, it's not a problem. The fan and pulley don't interfere AND I think I get MUCh better flow of air direct to the headers since there is an opening along side of the radiator on that side. Hasn't crested 190 since and that was in dead stop traffic.

I removed the mechanical fan, installed a Mr. Gasket 16" in front of the radiator (pusher) and it's been like that a year with no problems at all. Even in 100+ heat.

Did either of you notice any performance gain in the driver seat by removing the mechanical fan? Even the smallest gain?

I installed a pusher, since there wasn't enough room for a puller with my new radiator. With the mechanical fan off, the engine did seem to rev up faster, but overall, nothing amazing. But hey, every little bit helps.

I can't say I noticed any seat-of-the-pants differerence. I removed the mechanical fuel pump too. I figured, the more removed from the cam shaft, the better. Eventually, it has to add up to some performance and mpg advantage. These upgrades are cheap too.

Did you have to modify anything? I have the dual belt harmonic balancer on the engine I just installed, so had to add a spacer to the water pump pulley to get the belts to line up. I'd prefer to keep this balancer on in case I decide to add power R&P or A/C down the road, but I'm concerned this will cause clearance troubles with an electric fan unless I can mount it in front of the radiator, behind the hood latch mechanism. This is my next planned mod once I get my carb troubles worked out and an alternator installed.

My electric fan is in front of the radiator and I had to rework the hood latch mechanisim. I completely removed teh vertical brace and raised the locking mechanism.

How did you do that- isn't it connected with the top of the grille?

I took a grinder to the brace in front of my radiator to gain some clearance. It's snug, but fits.

I think the brace is a bit farther away from the radiator on a mustang due to the longer hood but I'm not sure- dad's fastback hasn't had a grille on it since 1985 :roll:

Is there an advantage of having a pusher vs a puller fan?

I think a puller fan setup is supposed to be more efficient.

Looks good. Thats how i have my futura set up. Dont have anyone around me that works on inlines so it is good to see pictures.

I take it you have a later car with the latch mechanism on the hood. I'm not sure that fan would clear my early style setup with the latch handle that hangs down behind the grille. So you just took off the vertical latch support, right? Doesen't that hold the gravel guard /valance in place in the middle?
