Engine Starts up, Doesn't shut off

Hey Folks,

Finally got the tri-power six in the 61 Comet and got duel exhaust on her.
There is one small problem. The car starts great, but when I turn the key to OFF, the engine still runs normally.

I have a MSD 6AL which I think i hooked up correctly..
I am still running the stock generator too. I have swapped out the ignition switch, selenoid, regulator and generator as an act of deperation.
Here are a few tests I did.

Diconnected the MDS from the wire that originally ran to the coil, and engine stops.

Ran a wire from the battery to the MSD and engine runs, and stops when disconnected.

When generator is not connected , engine starts a nd stops normally.

The power from the ignition turns on/off with key

I noticed that the connection off of the armature goes to the GEN light and then to the ignition switch - I would think that should not be a problem.

Thanks,
jim

Sounds like your getting some electrical feed back from the alt.. I have heard about that I think theres some kind of diod or something you can add to stop that .. Whats happening is the alt is feeding the MSD with power after you shut it off.. maybe take the wire thats attached to the alt (from the msd) and hook it up somewhere else?? just a thought..

on my MSD, The power wires are directly connected to the battery and then it has a smaller wire connected to the coil wire that tells it when to run. Never had an issue with that set up.

Tim,
I'll have to research with MSD to see if they mention that. I think there was a diode in the MSD kit, now that you mention it.

Slade,
That is exactly the way I have it set up too. The only Difference is the Generator.. I was looking at the schematic for the charging system, and there is a feed from the Armature to the GEN light to the ignition switch itself. When there is a charge from the Generator, it seems like power never gets cut when the ignition is turned off.
I have the exhaust on now and am working to get all the bugs out. It is drivable. Maybe I'll catch you at the Milk Bottle. The Star Drive In has a cruise this Thursday.
