I have a 65 Mustang convertible that I bought mainly because the boody and interior are in good shape. It has the 200 CI, 3-speed manual, but I was unable to start it and took the owners word that it had worked a little less than a year ago. No problem, I have a 68 Mustang 200CI that I could rebuild and put in the 65.
I just visited someone who has a 72 Econoline van with a 6 cylinder, three speed. The engine had been rebuilt not long ago, but has sat in this person's yard for about a year without being started. The transmission is a three-speed manual on the column.
My questions are what size engine might this be, we couldn't tell by looking at it, can the column shifter be deleted and the transmission be made into a floor shifter, and can this engine fit into a 65 Mustang?
The current owner says I can have the engine and transmission, but I have to take the entire van with it. Is there anything worth taking off the engine if it doesn't fit.
I am not mechanically challenged, but I have never tackled something like this. I do have friends that can help, but I want to ensure everything can be done before I commit myself.
