i have a 200 i think and the exhaust manifold is cracked up but thats not my only
problem looking closer i found that the little ear on top of the head where the
exhaust bolt goes is broken. my question is can this be repaired somehow or do i
need a different head? do these things happen alot on the #6 end of the engine
the previous owner tried to fix this by using a washer and nut that probably
caused the whole thing to snap all the way its just one bolt help

It can be repaired by welding and cutting a new thread. The head will almost certainly have to be removed for this process.

Sometimes, finding a shop able to weld the cast iron is the real hassle. While the head is off the motor, they should resurface the area the exhaust mounts to. Depending on what age the motor is, you may need to reduce the surface of the head to raise compression when the head is refitted. This is due to the newer head gaskets being thicker than the old ones.

Good luck!

Cheers, Adam.

thanks i was hoping there was an alternative to replacement. this car is going to
be a poor girls project. it should be interesting

Show me someone who got rich fooling with their car. It's a significant repair, but not as bad as some will imagine.

I got a little weld shop in town with this ole' boy can weld jus about anything. What he told me in my case {broken boss where the bolt threaded in} " drive the car in and keep it running till we're ready. When it was go time, I shut it off disconnected the battery ground. Held the new stud in the old threads and he laid a bead right down the sides. It worked!..ZZ

if he laid a bead around the bolt does that mean the bolt is now a permanent part
of the head or can it be removed?
