dont know anything about the wagon
oh, gotja, I wuz startin to salivate...

Will you have a 'side kick' to help, a more experienced person, or is this something you'll tackle all alone? If the later, I'd suggest a manuel (one of either Hanes or Chilton, & this 1 folks on here have been mentioning).

Keep up with the research so yer ready when it's time 2 make decisions. Research is fun 4 me anyway...

good luck, depending on how far U wanna go w/it it's alot of wrk.
Thanks for allowing us to come along. Ja try any of the other sites we mentioned yet?

I was on tffn, some pretty interesting stuff over there.

good, good, I'll hafta try out somea the sites. it's just good ta look around and learn how these sm 6s were put together and the possibilities for improvement. then there's so many other components (frnt end geometry, ele theory) it's just endless (almost). Look around - that way if sompin don't wrk U know which options U have for repair or replacement.

13" tires in proper sizes , the taller the better , for many older cars including Falcons are almost obsolete except from specialty sellers like Coker and Diamondback who charge $$$ . The generally recommended size is 185/80/13 with 175/80/13 [that's what I have right now] a fair alternative . Many are looking for 14" wheels that fit to have a wider range of available sizes , me included . Do you intend to travel any distance over a few miles at speeds over 55 ? If not you could use 155/80/13 or 175/70/13 which are fairly common at regular tire stores just remember to limit higher speed driving .

car wuz invented to compete and win against the VW bug. I think it did! The 13 inchers are less expensive. That's Y I used ta like em.

I like how yer lookin @ all aspects and plannng for the future. Sounds like yer keepin yer priorities strtaight - is it a Carter YF carb? Grab any numbers offa it yet? Somebody here sure's got a site 4 a rebuild kit if needed...

On the canadian tire website they seem to have a fair amount of options for 13s. So i dont think i have to worry.
Be sure you're not looking at trailer tires ; !3" is more common yet on trailers . Trailer tires are not meant to used on cars and have different design parameters . Even if they were automobile rated , they are too heavy duty , generally 6 ply rated / load range C , for a lightweight car such as the Falcon which used , in old bias ply ratings , 4 ply rated tires which , IIRC , would be rated B .

Presuming the carburetor is stock , it's probably of the Holley 1904 family maybe even with the glass bowl . The 1904 is a good design for normal use ; I adapted one to my '63 1/2 . The parts availability for them is good from regular parts houses .

I'm glad U showed up, I think you're the one with the 144? No, may B not... There's some 1 on here with this fella's exact model I think. Tryin to run a fine line between 'need for rebuild' or 'make due' on that carb...

When I first got mine I thought it was a 144 so in some of my first posts I would have mentioned 144 but I later found I had measured wrong .

170 maybe?

That's why I suggested he get the casting numbers offa the block. That & the #s offa the carb. We don't wanna head of in the wrong direction from the start...

Hey, the 1st (& only) 144 I saw sitting in that engine bay, looked like all the others 2 me!

Numbers would help confirm the components . Since 60falcon144 indicated it had not been driven regularly since the '80s , I'm guessing not much has been changed from stock .

It has a holley carb on it, My dad took care of ordering a carb rebuild for it and it was suppose to be in yesterday so it should be here any time now. Also im pretty sure its a 144 but if someone can tell me where the number is on the block i can get it for you guys today after school.

On the passenger side of the motor under the exhaust manifold, hidden partially by the motor mount and the starter.

have fun,
-ron

Was a rebuild kit ordered or a rebuilt carb ? Rebuilt carbs have always been a dice roll and even more so nowadays . If your carb has the glass bowl don't let go of that as those are rare . Also note the cylinder head # which is on firewall side of the intake manifold .
