Fresh 200cid engine running

I fired up my fresh 200 engine on saturday. It runs well.

After the initial break in of the cam shaft , I ran the car around a bit. Set the timing to a total of 36 for now.

The engine has good power. It will pull to 5300+ RPM in second gear(C4 trans) , 3.55 gear and the rev limiter kicked in. I have the limiter set at 5500. Perhaps I need to re-set the rev limiter.

it is a basic rebuild on this 1978 200cid engine;

.030 over cast pistons
log head was milled .045 .. port divider in, mild port work under the valves
block deck height was set at .005 above the piston top
hydraulic cam from Classic 274 cam at 110* LC .. 2 degree advance
rotating assembly was balanced.
ARP bolts / studs on the bottom end
Chrome moly push rods from Classic. .... Adjustable rockers (OEM)

Still have the OE 1 barrel carb on the engine. I tweaked it some, not much. Air cleaner is the OE unit from my 1962 Falcon 170 engine....

I figure if I get a 2 barrel carb on it and a better air cleaner it will pull a bit harder

Looks good Tony. What happen to your OZ head?

Are you going to mount the 2V carb via an adaptor, or go with a direct mount? Personally, I'd buy a second head and trick it out, like we did with Gene's. The guy who does my port work can set it up, and can get the log head to flow pretty well, all things considered. It would be good for atleast another 20-25 HP, probably more with that cam.

If you need a carb let me know? I have a few used (cheap) and a few new Autolites in stock, in various sizes.

Hi Mike,

I sold the OZ head. I needed the cash. I am looking for another D7 or D8 cylinder head to work over different this time like the direct mount 2 barrel

Back in the early 1970's , ..... Ed Smith ( Ed Smith speed shop / Five star engines in Glendale) ... Ed cut up a log head to direct bolt on a two barrel carb. Ed ran a 2 barrel carb off a Dodge truck.

Ed held records with the 144 thru 200 cid engine in a Falcon named the Sour Six..

I have my old stock head from my 250 if you are interested. I'd have to check the year of it, not really sure, but unless a previous owner changed heads its probably not a D7 or D8.

I might be interested.... my work week hours have been cut, so money is thin at this time.
