FUEL SENDING UNIT PLEASE HELP

ok so i have a 64 mercury comet im pretty sure its the fuel sending unit that is not working right but my gas gauge is always moving it says its fuel when i know for a fact its not then it says on empty its not reading right any one know were i can find a fuel sending unit for that car or wat car can i find one off i was wondering if maybe the falcons fuel sending unit would be the same some one please help

What happens if you unhook the wire off the sending unit? Does the gauge go to full or empty? Then ground that wire, it should go the opposite way. If it does that your gauge and the wire going to the sender is good. Next thing I would try is make sure the terminal is clean on the sending unit. If that does not help clean a spot on the fuel tube where it come out of the sending unit and use a hose clamp to hold a ground wire to it. Connect the other end to a good ground and see if that takes care of it. If that dont do it you will have to get that unit out for repair or replacement. The ground wire on the fuel tube did the trick on my mustang. Later cars have a ground tab on the sender that often rusts off.
