Fun with 200's

I got my two 200's yesterday and have one taken apart today.

I had a rebuilder there(she rebuilds perkins engines) and she said it seemed like the cam and crank shafts were fine, the cam shaft is definitely not stock, that it probably has 120lb springs.

Also said that the cam bearings were never put in properly. though it's not bad, the block is bored .060 over and there was oil in cylinder #6.

Also some kinda little carb, they said it was probably a Carter ABF or something like that? It's a small 1 barrel carb.

Pictures!

edit: Is there a list of what flywheels and exhaust manifolds will fit on the 200?

Any identification on the carb would be helpful, I don't see any numbers or marks on the carb.

It's an Autolite 1100. The standard stock 1 bbl carb for the 200 - except for the Carters. They are much more compact.

I actually have the carb here with me, I'm going to -attempt- to rebuild it.

Has anyone rebuilt one before? I found 3 small steel ball bearings inside and I'm not entirely sure where they go, they were not visible that I remember and they came out when I flipped the carb upside down to try to find a number. Also inside, there's a little copper tube coming from I think the fuel pickup and out into underneath the throttle plate, it has a little housing around it and the housing is slightly bent from the previous owner--Is this serious or just a 'cosmetic' thing?

EDIT: Um...are the teeth on the torque converter for these engines?
The only flexplates that I see have no teeth

I think my carburetor might be junk.

The little bent part with the copper tube inside that's under the choke plate on the top piece of the carb.

Any advice would be appreciated. If I can possibly carefully bend it back out and reuse it I would try. I have the carburetor rebuild kit but I don't want to waste it if the carb is junk..

EDIT: In case no one saw what I meant, here it is pointed out

yup that's an 1100, mabye you should have pony rebuild it, i wonder it it's not 400 if you give them the carb to build it from... it wouldn't hurt to ask...

i have my c4 and parts handy still i'll take some pics and post them tomorrow for you, that way you know what to expect when shopping...

When you get your rebuild kit from the auto-parts store (ask for the autolite 1100) there should be a diagram of the carb. I believe the bent pipe is correct.

Much appreciated, MPGMustang. I'm just wondering though what I'm going to have to do, I'm progressing on removing the 351 though, headers off so far, I'm hoping that I might be able to find someone nearby that would swap for the ones I'm looking for, I've had good luck on Craigslist so far.

And on the carb, it looks scuffed which is why I ask, I've tried finding exploded diagrams of the 1100 but I haven't found any yet which show the inside there.
I think I'm going to try it on my own, I got the kit for $16, it seems fairly straightforward and it's almost all gaskets. I'm just trying to get it operating at least to a running level.

The flexplate on the engine on the left is what you will need for your automatic transmission:

The teeth are on the torque converter for the starter when you have the automatic tranny installed.

hey sorry i havn't forgetten about the pics it's just that i haven't been home at all today... i'll get them in the morning and post them during the day.. hopefully

One question, with an extra flexplate and a ring gear, would it be possible to weld the ring gear to the flexplate and hook the starter to that, to start a 200 when it's up on an engine stand?

okay here are some pictures that i have taken.. hopefully you can see

clutch rod plate

4 studs out of the torque converter uses nuts for teh flex plate

the top plate goes on the block first... make sure you move or make sure that the guide pins are in the right holes... may require brute force

flex plate, 6 bolts, metal shim... make sure the 4 popouts are towards the tranny...

the nuetral safety switch goes here... i'm missing a bolt... the kickdown linkage is here also (the wire peice) you might want to invest in a new pedal bar if you don't already have one.

i can't tell what this is... :?

the vacum line hooks here in the back... you can adjust the shift times but i don't know how, try searching it.

Dipstick here... don't trust the dipstick, mine aways read full but never performed good until i over filled it... then it was a dream todrive for a short time.

the setup

i do have pedal pics too but i guess you don't need them.

i'm trying to put cations to them... hang on...

I don't know about anyone else, but for me, those pics are too small to see anything. When I click on the picture, it takes me to the image hosting site, but doesn't bring up the image.

I use Photobucket and works well. If others are having the same problem view MPGmustang's pics, I'd suggest Richard switch to photobucket.

It brings them right up for me but then again I use imageshack too. but I don't use the links that thumbnail the pictures, I just post direct links.

Anyhow, anyone have a picture of a flywheel from a 200? The only things that I can find are flywheel ring gears.

Thanks Ron, I'm not real deft with posting images in the forum...guess I should brush up on the image notes under eye candy.

Ok, I'm going to be snagging some parts for my 200 on Wednesday, being as my '68 has a clutch already I might swap the C4 for a manual trans.

I also have a sandblaster that I borrowed and will be using, all willing it will really shape up in a short time.

Anyone know if I can lift the 351w out of the engine bay then remove the transmission? I was told that I have to or that it would be in my best interest to try to lift the transmission with the motor.
