gains and times

so what was your best gain in your eyes and just for fun has anyone got any quarter mile times? I took 2nd in finals by a freak accident. I went to get one time on the car and ended up winning my bracket (there was one other car, an aspire) which put me in finals then 7 people in a row broke out. two trophies later i still have a 19 second mustang.

My 67 Falcon's almost stock (77 head) and I'm afraid to take it to the track cuz I don't want to know how slow it is!!

If you are sticking with a 1 Bbl carb I would say the biggest gain you could acheive would be by swapping to a bigger cfm carb (Carter YF 1 Bbl) and porting/polishing/milling the head.

If you are talking about swapping to a 2 Bbl carb, then I would mount it directely to the intake log and that would be youre biggest gain.

The choke point for our inline 6's is the intake log/breathing ability of the head, so all of your focus should be in freeing that choke point up!

Or you could cut to the chase and order a Oz 250 2V head

Honestly I have no idea what times I am running in the qtr mile, but in my "unofficial" qtr mile marked out down the road from my house I am running around 92 or 93 mph going through the "traps" :D :D I would assume that is in the low-mid 15 second range??? I dont really know....

It does do awesome "burnouts" and thats all I care about

I plan on taking my fairly "stock" '63 Ranchero out to the next test and tune I can make. I'll let you know what she runs. I'd guess about 19 seconds. Basically, not to fast. But at least I'll have a benchmark to work from as I do little modifications. I'll be running a '66 200 out of a 'Stang with a Carter YF series 1bbl. Dagenham 4spd manual with a 3.5 ratio rear end. I believe that low-geared rear will be the weak link. I get lots of good "off the line" torque, but I'm through the gears in no time with nowhere to go.

Sefus,

There are a few inexpensive things you could do to get slight HP increases. Do you have the Pertronix electronic ignition installed yet? That and a high performance coil will give you a bit more oomf along with better mileage. A K&N filter is always a good place to start as well. There is a neat little book out called "The Ford Six Performance Handbook". It's got lots of ideas and information for about $12.50. It can tell you how to index plugs and other cheap HP increases. The author's email is daschj@ida.net. His name is Dave.

dont get me wrong, i know exactly what i'll be doing/upgrading. i thought it would just be fun to share what we've all done that in our eyes was the "best" up grade to date. I kind of wish i could get my hands on a 250 head but intill i find one i'll stick with porting and what not to my 200.

I wish I could get a 250 2v also...I wish someone imported to the east coast...cause shipping from west coast makes it twice the price.

I think putting in the Pertronix and gapping the plugs bigger has made a DRASTIC improvement. More reliable. Most days, it felt like a rocket compared to point system.

a little water and....sccrreeecchhh. Nice burnouts.

that was before the carb went away. I think a new carb will also do wonders for most people in the performance area.

Both of these "upgrades", small and cheap are worth it.
