Gapping the spark plugs

Going to finally get around to installing a pertronix kit on my car and have a question. I always see you guys talking about gapping the spark plugs. Is this really necessary when switching over to the electronic ignition? I know someone told me they sell a tool to do this procedure so I'm probably going to pick one up tomorrow. Is it hard to gap them? What should I gap them to?

8) changing the plug gap is no big deal. with electronic ignition i set the gaps at .040" as i find that to work best.

You dont have to open up the gap. Most conditions the original 35 will be fine. 40-45 should be safe and give you some gains under certain conditions. More you need to do some more research and know the rest of your setup. GM's Oldsmobile motors of the late 70's and 80 went to 80. Those were a shock to see the first time you pulled one of those without looking at the spec.
