What's everyone's MPG for their I6. Please post your setup and what you are getting, I'm really interested. When I fill up my tank again, I'll drive it untill it putters and give you my rating.
Thanks

I get around 15-16 mpg on my '67 with the top down. Everything is pretty much stock except for the pertronix. On my '66 I get terrible gas mileage. Between 12.8-14 mpg. I'm not sure what kind of work has been done on it except that it's not the original engine. Both are a mix of city and highway driving and a lot of hills to drive up.

on my 62 170... i believe im getting around 12-14mpg .. before the new carb i was getting less then 10 with no power.. 8)

i was getting about 20-21 MPG on my 65 Mustang with the Autolite 1100 carb. As far as I could tell, everything was stock. I'm in the process of rebuilding now, going to the Holley 5200 carb and a '77 head. I'll be interested to see how that changes things

In my 68 Stang with the the 200 cid mated to a C4 auto, I think i was getting *around* 20 mpg (more towards the 'less than' side), with a basically rebuilt-to-stock motor, bored .040. I am not even sure its that accurate, being that I ran shorter 205/70 R14 tires. I am sure I can't get that much out of her right now, being with a mashed in trunk, which hurts what little aerodynamics she had.

slight mods- Holley rebuilt replacement for Autolite 1100, Pertronix 40K volt coil, ignitor ignition.

By the way, the ~20 mpg rating was for highway. With my awesome drivin skillz in the city, I got somewhere around 10-12mpg :D

Well I get about 12 to 13 mpg with my 200. It has some mods on it but not much, but when i changed my carb to the 2300 series it went down to 10 mpg. I am not conserned with mpg I am consered with more power. Hope this helps you.

Wow...I'm not doing that bad. Before I put my new cam in, I was getting around 26MPG on the highway, 20 around town.

With the COmp cam, I'm getting around 23-24 MPG on the highway, and 19 around town. I just can't stay off the gas as easy with that and my T5. When I had the offy on, I was getting around 20-23 overall.

Currently With 23-24 MPG I'm running (top down):

DS2
MSD Digital 6+
8mm wires
Plugs gapped to .052"
Flamethrower coil
T5 tranny
3.20:1 rear end.
No AC or PS.

8) the worst average with my falcon was 18, and that was towing my trailer in the hills of kentucky and west virginia. the best has been 24.

mine has dropped to 19 or so from 20-21 (170, 2,77, 3.50 rear) basicly drive 90% highway (done almost 30K in this car so far since I got it) still driving on the holley 1908? and doing about 75-80 on teh highway. I think if I went back to driving at 50-55 I could get back up there but to go the 250 miles home from school at that speed really tacks on the time.

Whoa! My '79 F150 gets better gas mileage than some of the 6's posted.

As far as my 200, not sure yet. I'll post when I can drive it.

Soon, I hope.

yeah I am running a 26" tire with 3.50 gears at 80mph alot of air to punch through. plus the holley on my car is a poor design (no booster on the discharge) I hope to gain some milage when I go to a 1100 (need to install a regulator for it) to run those speeds I am spinning that 170 at close to 3500rpm and over 3/4 throttle. I am sure the power valve is open too.

Hmm..Some of these numbers are pretty bad for I6's it seems? What are v8 guys getting? I talked to a few, they say about 20 on the highway, 15 in the city more or less.

My '65 got around 13 mgp for the 6 years I have had her. I just pulled the head and found the top of #6 piston pretty much ummmmmm, how shall I say it.... "F&*#ed". Don't know how long the piston was bad, but the milage has never been good. I'll post pictures later (I hope).

In the past I got about 24-25 mpg in my '63 (about as stock as you can get: 170, 2.77, 3.50). However its been a long time (a few years?) since I've given it a tune-up & I'm pretty sure I'm not getting quite that good right now. (I've done a lot of traveling in the past few years & the poor car has mostly sat in storage).
The '65 used to get around 12-13 when I was running the holley 1946 (installed by the P.O.). I switched to a carter YF & DS2 & was getting about 23 mpg when I last drove it (its still in oregon). The car has a 200, cruis-o-matic (C4), 2.87.

To and from school i get 20-21 and i warm up for 2-3 minutes in the morning. In the summer, i got better mileage, but i never checked it for a number, i just went a week longer before filling up. I love being able to go a month on 20 bucks! The engines all stock, no mods at all.

As for V8s, I have a friend with a 68 Mustang coupe with a 302 and C4, and he says he gets around 20 most of the time, but he also has had it "detuned" by his grandpa (original owner), but it'll still beat any ricer.

If I can keep my foot out of it  around 20-22 mpg.....usually its more like 10 mpg!

.....I HAVE A 1983 LTD. IT HAS THE BB 200 MOTOR, C-5 AUTO (LOCKS UP ) STOCK. IT HAS A STOCK HOLLEY CARB. IT HAS THE REALLY BAD DESIGNED EXHAUST SYSTEM THAT MAKE THE CARB HEAT SOAK WHEN IT STOP. IT HAS 25 INCH TIRES, RUN AT 40 LBS. THE REAR END IS A 2.73. I HAVE THE 20 GAL TANK THAT I CAN PUT 22 GALS. IN. THE CAR IS NOT LIGHT AND HAS THE FULL POWER SET UP. FULLY SMOGGED.

.....LAST WEEKEND WENT TO BAKERSFIELD ON SAT. SAW ONE OF OUR MEMBERS CHRIS AND GAVE HIM A TRANNY. THAT WAS 225 MILES AND NO STOPPING. I GOT 23 MILES TO THE GAL. (9.6 GALS) THEN I WENT TO SACRAMENTO TO SPEND TIME WITH MY GRAND KID AND DAUGHTER. THAT WAS 310 MILES NO STOPPING AND 24.6 MPG. I USED 12.6 GALS. I DRIVE 65 MPH. GOING TO SACRAMENTO I HAD A HEAD WIND OF MAYBE 8 MPH. THAT WAS ON THE 10th LAST SAT. THAT IS ALL FLAT ROADS WITH A FEW HILLS.

.....WHEN I STOP I CAN'T START THE CAR QUICKLY AND HAVE A STRONG RAW GASOLINE SMELL. SO AROUND TOWN I GET 16 -18 MPG.

,,,,,HEY RBOHM DO YOU EVER GET THE SOAKING FROM THE HIGH HEAT? DO YOU HAVE THE SAME EXHAUST MANIFOLD OR IS YOURS DIFFERENT?

In the summer I was getting around 16-19 with alot of hill driving. Haven't checked it yet this winter.

Why is it that the V8s are getting better mileage? It seems that unless you have a really nicely tuned six, a V8 would have more power and get better mileage.

Shhhhh...don't say that....

Seriously though, I'm sure alot of our sixes need a really good tune up. If you consider that most newer cars can run 60,000 miles plus with just the regularly scheduled fluid changes, I can see how difficult it would be for you to remember that a car designed 30-40 years ago needs more attention.

I also suspect poor tune of the engines. I don't have anything that great and I'm getting 23MPG. I know I need a carb rebuild, just holding out until I put my Aussie head on. We'll see what happens then.
