So I've decided to go with the clifford perf. 6=8 header but I'm not sure on the exhaust. I want it to sound very healthy not chokey. It needs to be loud but not so loud people hate it. It needs to growl not bark. So what exhaust should I go with and whats an estimate on the cost taking it to a shop, oh and I want true duals out the rear? 66 mustang 200ci

I'll throw a curve ball into all this.

Heard a car the other day with a HUGE muffler fitted, about 8" before the tip. I mean a truck-size, chambered cylindrical type. You couldn't see it; this wasn't done for looks.

The note was deep and low; not passive yet not obnoxious. Wondered about the weight, but otherwise it seemed an interesting (yet effective) choice!

I previously had a '62 Ranchero with a 5.0. I used the tri-Y headers into a 3 1/2" flowmaster y pipe, then 3 1/2" pipe straight back 4 1/2 feet, up and over the rear axle. After that I had a 3 chamber big block 50 series flowmaster, center in/center out muffler with a real 4 " tail pipe. The big block series is for crew cab dually's and motor homes. It was quiet at idle with a very low frequency rumble that you knew it wasn't stock, but still wasn't offensive either. Even on light acceleration it wasn't bad, but if you nailed it, it would talk. I also used a single 3" pipe system on my Dodge Caravan 3.3L V6. It had a products for power 3" in/out converter and a delta 40 series 2 chamber 3" center in/out flowmaster on it. It had a nice burble at idle with the same characteristics as the Ranchero. I believe the flowmasters were designed to be put way at the end of the exhaust system. I think they sound better that way and make more power. Another really good setup if you must have duals is a pair of Walker Dynomax 2 1/2" turbo mufflers. I believe they are the best turbo mufflers on the market for sound quality and especially for the price. Sorry to ramble on for so long. My $.02 though.

I'll chime in I have the dual out summit turbo muffler system and its nice at idle. Much quieter than my old single flowmaster at cruise but will bite when its punched. Theres a sound clip on youtube and here via the search button.

ive seen it, it does sound good. im going with turbo mufflers on mine also. right now i have open header, but im not driving it. do a search, youll find lots of info here, search youtube too.

gt style 2" pr 2.25" exhaust is what i think most people are doing, ebay, NPD, cjponyparts all have it.

Summit turbos are good. I had them on my '68 Mustang 289. Walker Dynomax turbos are even better, especially in terms of quality...
