Has anyone put a 250 in a 65 or 66 Mustang?

I thought this was a very doable swap. However, the more I look, the less info I can find. I've read everything in the Falcon Handbook, which may or may not apply to Mustangs. I am nearing completion on my engine. I sure hope I don't have a very expensive garage decoration instead of an engine for my car.

I'd love to see pictures of 2 barrel carb setups and motor mounts. I do need to be able to close the hood....

Thanks so much,

Ed

8) yes a 250 has been put into a mustang, many times. and everything in the falcon handbook also applies to mustangs as they are the same basic car underneath the skin.

I thought so too... I asked Mike (CI) and he said he hadn't done that swap before and didn't have any data. David (FPH) said he wasn't sure because he thought my platform was smaller than his. That's why I'd sure like to see some pictures of someone who has done this swap.

I appreciate your help.

An article Jack Collins (mustang6) covered off called the The Crossflow Chronicles used to cover the US 250 transplant in his 1966 Stang, as well as the cross flow 250

The swap is easy as long as you use the 250 Maverick engine mounts, and 1973 Maveric air cleaner are used. The 250 is about 11 inches wide, widthwise, from engine mount base to engine mount base, so the mounts need to be physically adjusted into the engine bsy to allow the 250 engein to sit low enough. The stock 200 is about 9.125" wide from boss to boss.

If you want ( or have to ) use a stock hood the above info is what you need , I bolted my 250 into my 65 with the stock 65 mounts , I was planning to use a scoop or Fiberglass hood ( with a scoop ) so it sitting an inch or so higher was not a concern , I ran an electric Pusher fan on the front ( no room in the rear )
