I would like to create a post for myself and others to keep up with my progress and questions... maybe itll help someone... afterall that is what the forums for right? so this is the post for creating the WORLDS FASTEST turbo 6 banger 68 mustang... ok so for anyone who doesnt know I bought a turbo off ebay.... more of a turbo kit, for a 2.2l probe.... its kinds small but well see what happens... right now I am waiting for it to mock up and get it ready to run and hopefully get it n and going before thanksgiving where I will be racin my neighbor who has a kia with nitrous...

so factory numbers I guess these things ran 19.5 in the quarter at 67 mph my best time so far has been a 17.8 and I think with some tuning I could be in the low 17s and that was at 76 I believe... not too bad but this thing needs some help... this setup wll be about as budget as they come... so far total cost is $101 for the turbo, intercooler, wastegate, some plumbing, factory probe BOV and now a nitrosdfkfgb carb float and jet extensions for a total of 29 dollars so 130... I will need to buy some gauges next I guess so anyone have any suggestions should I ebay them and get some cheap ones?

I gotta wait till it gets here for measurements... umm its a stock IHI turob off a 91 probe gt if that helps.. (it doesnt) I tried looking it up online but found nuthn...

My suggestion...

Get a daily driver. The more you rod a car up, the more it breaks down. Plus when its torn down, you dont have wheels.

Just buy a $500 gem. I find em all the time in the local "crappy" b grade for sale paper. Its funny what people let go for $500-$700 (EX: my Taurus, my Ex-Fairmont, my 64 Fairlane)

Make that price part of the investment, cause a second set of decent wheels is almost a necessity for fetching parts.

I have no family in the area, so I have always had a secondary driver with cheap liability. Has come in SOOOO handy with a breakdown. Maybe you have the parents car to use. Anyways, keep it under consideration.

1 ) YES!!

2 ) YES!!

3 ) It is a NECESSITY!!!

Oh yeah, I also suggest having the second vehicle be a motorcycle.

Being forced to ride in the rain with grocery bags hanging on each wrist is EXCELLENT motivation to get that #@*^%*& vehicle running again!!!

The bags also help greatly for steering of the bike, especially coming to a stop light at a slow speed.

OK, back to topic for me.

yeah I did mine with no second car. I live about a mile fmro school and 2 blocks from the store. PUT ALOT of miles on pedaling my ass everywhere for 6 weeks. but alot of my hold up was MAKING a bonnet and doing the cable throttle conversion AND working on a disc brake swap at the time while working 20 hours a week and attending class full time. I say to try and lay out alot of the parts in advance. spend a weekend to make up turbo mounting and actually mount it. then put it all back stock.....then the next weekend toss it back on and do up the oil lines.....then put it all back stock....you do this and you can keep your driver and have it down a min amount of time....plus you get REAL good at working on it.

Its all pretty easy to swap, yeah.

Im just in SUCH anger that the intake wasnt bolt-on seperate to the head. Otherwise Id already have my Offy Tri Carb on.

Seems silly to me. I got the last NOS thin head gasket my dad had, on now. Why should I pull off the WHOLE head to put the tri carb on. I DONT re-use head gaskets. You can if youre 1/4 mile, but I take her on long trips.

Oh well. Wait until the next head gasket malfunction.

Jeesh, we gotta let the kid talk, were hijacking hardcore. Ill shut up now.

wow... and I got yelled at for hijacking in lincs post... I REALLY dont care I "have" a second car really my dads truck.. I like it because of how much faster it is than mine but everything else sucks... radios garbage... you cna talk to the passenger over the exhaust.. noone stares, or gives thumbs up, "hits on you", tell you to do a burnout... honks, smiles, tell stories, try to race you... lol umm I dont car much for it personally I think knowing that my baby is parked is bad enough... as for a second car.. insurance for my car is bad enough... and I would like to actually finish the turbo... right now I can spend around 175.. insurance is due so I had to pay that... and then the next couple of weeks can go towards the car and gas.. and food, and any other misc. expenses... if I do NEED anything I have a little over a grand in savings but its staying there... I may have to start selling stuff on ebay again...

ok a couple of questions... should I run an intercooler for 8 psi? I have heard that if you arent running enought boost one will actually heat up the air... would the one I am getting from the stock probe work ok? I havent seen it yet but it is included... would a BOV from ebay work ok? like one of the cheapo greddy ones for 30 dollars or something... I dont think the stock one would sound impressive... for an a/f gauge none seem to come with the o2 sensor I asked a guy on Ebay and he said that I "just" have to strip a wire and hook it up to the wire that goes to your ecu... wait... hmmm the turbo has a sensor in it now could I buy a new one and somehow hook it up to that? this is a budget setup as most of you have noticed... umm I think thats about it I will continue researching for a littel bit then goto bed.. oh ya I guess the 69 and later exhaust manifolds are bigger? Matt (66sprint6) is running a 69 and I guess it flows more? if so I guess I will find myself off to the junk yard... Thanks, Tommy

well I went to the junkyard today and got another manifold to cut up.... and I thought I had heard sometihng about one manifold of a later car was bigger and flowed more.. well I got it off a 78 with air and its almost the exact same with some plugs and hoses thrown in for emissions I guess... heres the pics...

Well now you get a chance to geat sandblast and paint both with hi temp 1000+ degrees VHT (brand) paint. Go to the local shop, probably 15-25$ each for the sandblast, and order your choice of colors online for the VHT paint.

A good light in the garage and some wire is a great way to hang it from the rafters and spray all available cornes...then spray it again in 10 minutes...then spray it again in another 10 minutes. Get like 10 layers on those suckas. You may get buzzed up, unless you get out for those 10 minute intervals in between, unless you really want that. Can be fun (kidding).

We dont want your next project thread to be "How To Huff For Optimal Results", so....

Will look great on the car, and you can use the second one to setup for the compressor project, so what if theyre the same. Itll definitely do.

Nick says he disconnects the turbo manifold and reinstalls the regular one to chase parts, takes very shorty to do. Good that you have 2 now.

Collect parts, PARTS PARTS PARTS!!!! PARTS PARTS!

I will end up just doing it in our sandblasting cabinet... and I believe I have some of that paint... may have to check... I am spoiled rotten when it comes to tools and odd stuff, if I ever need a tire changed I Can drive it on our lift take it off with an impact, take the tire and rim to our tire changer take it off and replace it... I wish I used them more and they didnt sit there. I am going to email the turbo guy after I post this and see what the status was of it...

hmmm 7 miles to school each way.. and I work from 3-whenever and school ends at 2:50 so I am usually a couple mins late I dont think that would go over well...

thats only roughly a 20mph pace you have to keep up on the bike....if you got a halfway decent roadbike (lance armstronge style) you could huff out 3 miles in 10 mins....or just drive a different car while you turbo it :P

have you thought about one of will's headers through mike?

does anyone think I will have any probs with my cam? and does anyone have a pic of a boost referenced fuel pump the best description I have heard is running a line from your wastegate to the fuel pump... can anyone be more specific? a pic would probably be best... just trying to get it all figured out... I talked to the guy and he said he will most likely ship it out tomorrow.. yes SHIP IT tomorrow... and maybe was thrown in there somewhere...
