Head cast number

Hi all

Have just been given flat log head cast number is C9DE-6049 B. All the book and web site say last 4 numbers should be 6090 for Head but this one shows 6049. I understand that it is 1969 falcon head and it seem to have 1.75 inlet port size. Any help would be great

Thanks

Howdy Back Peter:

Another mystery from FoMoCo! It is somewhat unusual to run across heads/parts that have unique casting codes, but not impossible. Usually the variance come in the first four digits. The "6090" is the usual id for a cylinder head casting and I'm guessing that you thoroughly cleaned the raised numbers to accurately read them. Also the 1.75" intake valve may not be a clue unless you could verify that it was original from the factory. Valve size is easily changed. 1969 was in an era of change for the small sixes at FoMoCo, which makes it a good time for exception, enigmas and screw-ups. My guesses are that this head was (1) a one-off engineering casting, or (2) a head cast somewhere other than in the USA or Canada, or (3) it was a screw-up from the foundry that found its way into production, or (4) a combination.

Where did you find the head? Do you know any of it's history? Are there any other variations not consistent with C9xx castings? Such as intake tract volume? chamber volume? More sturdy casting material in areas of weakness?

I'm sorry to not be definitive for you. Such is the nature of FoMoCo I'm afraid. Please share any discoveries that you make.

Adios, David
