I have been told that this will not work...My Alternator is mounted to the left of the block(when looking at it) with the A/C unti mounted under that. This doesnt allow for much space, even for the stock exhaust manifold. Anyone have this problem? I have been looking for a header that the first pipe runs parallel to the block, and it looks like MustangUnlimited's new Single 200 Header's first pipe comes pretty close to the block...Any ideas?

I modified an alternator / compressor bracket from a 78 Fairmont. That bracket has the compressor on top and the alternator below it. The alternator worked just fine, but I had to move the compressor away from the engine to clear the Clifford header. That caused a problem because now there was not enough of the belt riding on the alternator pulley. So I put a larger diameter pulley on the alternator so the belt wouldn't slip. That caused another problem because the alternator wouldn't charge until the motor was turning 2,000 RPM's. And that caused another problem because the 200 amp alternator and compressor is just too much for a single belt. I think if I want to have both power steering and air conditioning, I need a V-8

I had the same problem with not enough belt going around the alt. I got a serpentine belt idler, mounted it on the bracket where the back of the belt used it. Put it between the alt and ac compressor but about 4 or 5" toward the engine, causing the belt to go farther around both the alt and ac. Works good. I've got a 100 amp alt.

I did something similar to what is shown in AzCoupe's link. I avoided welding and just used spacers to put the bracket off the engine by 1-1/4". The two lower spacers I bought from Mcmaster Carr, the top one I made from a piece of 3/16 thk X 1" wide steel. I bent a little jog in it then drilled two holes. The kit had an additional strap that attached further back on the block. It looked useless to me so I left it off. This is my 2nd summer with no problems. I had to have CAA make me a special hose to run from the compressor to the evaporator. If I remember correctly, the hose in the kit hit the alternator, so I had them make a 90 deg fitting and make it a little longer too. They were really cool and credited back the cost of the kit's hose once I returned it. If I were doing it over I might run the hose along the drivers side to keep it away from the hot headers. You'll also probably need a longer belt.

I have Hooker long tube header and Classic Auto Air a/c.
I could take some pictures if you are interested.

Someone would have to tell me how to post them...
