Headers for Mavericks?

Are there firewall issues using a Falcon header? I only ask because they're common and it would be a shame if you got tricked into paying more for a dedicated product that was in fact the same as a common and cheaper one.

The only difference in 200-250 headers is the overall height betwen the gasket face and the collector pipes. Some will fit fine, others with the V8 style collector flanges will potentially interfere with the underbody, or drag too low.

There's an interesting set of pipes on the "Ebay" section right now; we have been discussing the quirky firing order.

Cheers, Adam.

The biggest issue is the starter location. I think the 250 has the started lower and the Falcon pipes will not clear. I'll have to look ant my Falcon and Mave with the hoods up and see. never thought about them being the same, just thought the Engine height & starter would be an issue as the 250 is taller.

The Maverick is dimensionally similar to an early Mustang. The six cylinder headers for any 65-70 Mustang should fit just fine.

Thanks Jack. I always thought they were the same, but the Mustang still only had a 170 or 200. How will the 250 effect that?

69-70 Mustangs came with 250's as an option. The big change in header routing is to accomodate the taller deck and the low starter.

I know Clifford makes a set specific to Mustang and Maverick 250's.

About 18 years ago, I ordered a cheap set of headers for my 76 Cobra, with a 302 in it. When they came in, I opened the box, and they were 6 cyl headers. I asked the guy if the would be the same price (they were actually mis-boxed!) he said they were, so I got headers for my 6 cyl Maverick for $69.00! Then I ordered another set for the Cobra. I had to sell them about 9 years ago, when I put a 250 in it, like it has already been told, the starter location on the 250 is lower, and the bell is bigger, no fit. Now I want to get a header for the 250, but only a single outlet. But the price is too much...

I just looked at the Clifford site and $300. for headers is too rich for me. I'll do more searching and see what i can come up with. I'll keep this post updated.

Hi Hotrodbob,

During one of my internet binges I found a shop in the valley who will make flanges for $60. The price he quoted was for 3/8" mild steel, 1/2" mild steel was $80. I'll rewind my mental videotape and see if I can find the shop again.

That would be GREAT. I could try my hand at making a header. Ok, I could take the flange to a guy that makes headers.
