Like it says, hello and thanks, I've been cruising this forum for a while but just got around to joining. I bought a 19641/2 mustang about a year ago and found this site about a month later. Ya'll have been a great help to this newbie to the classic mustang world.
I began with absolutely no experience working with cars and took a leap with this classic. What I got was a decent 64 mustang with a 170 inline six and a 3-speed manual. With help from the posts in this forum I've managed to install a new 2bbl Holley, hp coil, and new fuel pump(believe me this is no small feat for me). I continue to plan and tinker and will be looking to this site for info and help.
Any advice on what I should and especially shouldn't do will be appreciated. As soon as I get some pics scanned I'll try to post 'em to show what I've got and what I've done.
Thanks and War Eagle!!!

If you haven't yet installed an export brace, look into it. It can actually pay for itself in front end alignments and tire wear. Good to hear you're becoming a real car nut. 8)

8) i would also check to see which trans i had. the 2.77 trans is fragile and wont tolerate much power. you can identify it by the 4 bolt top cover. if you have this tranny, either look for a 68 or later bellhousing with the 3.03 bolt pattern, buy the 2.77 to 3.03 adaptor sold elsewhere on this site, or swap to a T5(any of the ford ones will do nicely) and purchase the adaptor also sold on this site.

WAR EAGLE!!!

When I lived in Montgomery for 11 years I dated a girl who was a Tide fan.

Nice to see another southern gentlemen joining the club! Good luck and have FUN!

-Chris

P.S. Don't forget to laugh at your mistakes!    Speaking from experience!

Slade, that's a fact. Those factory braces are flimsy. The suspension went to heck when I installed the 1" sway bar without the export brace. Ruined a set of tires in 3000 miles.
The factory brace stubs now provide handy mounting brackets for my alarm and cruise control. (Photos available.) :D

Hey thanks for the replies. Got a few questions about the export brace. Are you talking about replacing or reinforcing the existing brace? Looking at my handy NPD catalog I see an export brace reinforcment and a monte carlo bar. Are these what your talking about?

As far as transmission goes, since we're in the middle of a monsoon i haven't been able to check it out though I'd be will to guess its a 2.77. I could use some more detail on how to tell the difference. (when you say the four bolt pattern on the top, what are you referring to as the top-remember, I don't have a vast knowledge base.)

And Chris, I don't know if you were referring to the Tide girl as one of your mistakes, but while that's pushing it, anything can be forgiven  !!
By the way, I don't know when you were here, but I get to Montgomery occasionally, so if you know of any good yards around there i'd appreciate the info.

Glad to see another Auburn fan is out there. I graduated in '89, and now live in B'ham with way too many bama fans. By the way if you really want some power, go for the aussie head. By the way if you are considering going with the three one barrel set up, I have the whole set up including the linkage and three used carbs sitting in my garage. Initally was going to keep the 170, but found a 200 cheap(free) and rebuilt it with an aussie head. The difference is dramatic.
