help... 12V for elec choke???

put a new (reblt) carb with elec choke on my 250.

as a temporary i hooked up a ign/on hot wire from the solenoid to make the choke operate.

is there a better spot to come from?

I am new to mustangs and the only thing i could find that looked like a fuse block was above the driver kick panel and only about the size of a zippo lighter (surely that can not be it) :?: :?:
 
look up under the dash like behind the brake pedal, to the left, that's where the fuse block will be. it is perfectly acceptable to run it from the solonoid however.
 
What year Mustang? The '65/'66 has their fuse boxes just above the driver side kick panel as you've mentioned and aren't bigger than 2X3 inches or so. A real pain in the arse to service the fuse let alone checking to see if any are blown.

Some of the 12v electric chokes dont like full system voltage (13.5ish). They will be much happier (and last longer) running through something like a ballast resitor which would be what you have where you hooked up if you are still running your points system. I would want to make sure the extra electrical load of the choke didnt lower the voltage available for the ignition. Depending on the load of the coil it could also overload the resistor wire. GM ran their chokes through an oil pressure switch so it would only run when the engine running for sure. Ford had a bunch of 7 volt choke coils that ran off a special terminal on the alternators that was only 'live' when the alternator was turning. The alternator in my 66 has this terminal (but I would assume the orignal alts didnt have this). Some of the electric choke conversion kits come with a relay that has some sort of a temp switch in it that you bolt to the head. Like this one:
