Holley 1940 Question

I'm currently running a 1940 (4694-2) with automatic choke (auto trans) on my 65 200 CI. What do I need to do to switch to a Holley 1940 with an electric choke?

Thanks in advance for any help.

An Automatic ( Im going to assume ) you mean Hot Air , and want to run an Electric version , as these are both Automatic Chokes , LOL , you need the electric stat ( Black Round deal ) , if you find one it gets hooked to a 12volt source only when the key is on , and make sure to unhook the Hot air tube from the heat source ( don't block it just let it draw in clean unheated air ) they are out there

Howdy Rookie:

The Holley #1940 Was a service replacement for autolites after Autolite went out of business. Since I don't recall ever seeing an Autolite 1100 or 1101 with and electric choke I would doubt that one exists. If they did, Pony Carbs will likely be as source.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I just purchased a "new in the box" Holley 1940 with electric choke. Once it arrives, I might have other questions.

Thanks again!

Howdy Back:

Rookie- Do you happen to know the original application for your #1940 carb with an electric choke? Does it have a Spark Control Valve (SCV)? I'd appreciate any details you can offer on the carb. Thanks in advance.

This is how it was listed by the seller:

This is a NEW(not rebuilt) Holley Carburetor, Model 1940, 1 barrel w/electric choke. Original application is 1962-1969 Ford Truck & 1963-1967 Ford Passager Car with a 144-170-200 cu.in. engine. All Transmissions.

Number on Carburetor is 4694-1

Number on Holley Box is 1-158

I have a couple pictures of the carb, but it doesn't appear that I can upload them to this thread.

I bought a new 1940 / electric years ago for a 300 still have it. Worked good on my 65 truck

Well, I got the carb the other day and it turns out that the seller apparently mis-typed the number (it's actually 4694-2, as opposed to 4692-1). This is good for me, in that it is identical to the Holley I already have on my Mustang. I now have a brand new, never used Holley 1940 (all the extra attachments & parts included) for a replacement.

Thanks again to everyone for your advice and comments!

 Hi rookie sixer.Welcome aboard. If your Mustang has an alternator, you can hook the
power feed for the choke to the STATOR stud on the alternator.
Good luck.Have fun.Be safe.
