From other research it looks like I'm going to be replacing my carb. And since I'm new to this I have a ton of questions.

First, is the Carter YF a single barrel?

How user friend is the Holley 2300? Think of someone that has no carb experience, zilch, nada. Willing to learn though.

What adapter would I need to mate the Holley to my 200cid? Where can I buy it? A link would be great.

> YF Carter like many carbs has many variations. One version was used on the Fords -(MAv/Com/Stang/Granada...?). Good running later - higher CFM carb widely available not expensive.

> 2300 is generic name for Holley 2Bbl 2300 series' Two most popular versions are the 7448 and 4412 versions, 7448=350CFM and 4412=500CFM roughly. Both are not built for stock small sixes in their flow ballistics but do very well with modified engines and are widely available used and new and fairly inexpensively.

> The Holley 2300's have familiar half of four barrel 2BBl carb base. Multiple vendors sell adaptors from 2Bbl to original 1Bbl opening on head. Even more sell the Weber-Holley/Weber small 2Bbl carb base to original 1Bbl port and can be used with a second adaptor (H/W to Holley) to fit 2300 but best solution is "direct mount" which requires machining and some minor mods.

> YF's vs 2300' on Maverick 170: , YF was good running - smooth idle - decent performance and 2300/350 on adapter was good running - smooth idle - max performance with terrible gas mileage and eye-watering rich @ mid throttle.

Common alternative is aforementioned' Holley/Weber 5200 PROGRESSIVE 2 bbl more suitable to small engines. There are so many variations of the 5200', seems more issues than with many others...

HAev Fun

I was happy with how the engine in this Bronco ran when I bought it. This is in regards to power and performance. With that being said, what carb would be the simplest, most reliable daily driver? It's a Bronco, not a Mustang. I don't really need uber performance.

From the last post I'm starting to lean toward the Carter YF.

the Carter YF
AND "later yrs" it looks like from the above post...but which yrs is that?
All I know is after '68 to avoid the SCV/Lod a matic combo.

Yes the Carter is a one barrel. It seems that a 350 cfm Holley would be too much for a stock 170 although I am far from being an expert. I read somewhere probably here or classicbroncos.com that the Holley/Weber does not work well at the angles an off road vehicle may encounter. The Carter is good and an autolite from a 200 might be a good choice as well. You should verify if you have the load matic distributor and carb that works with it. I am not sure if that combo was used in 1968. Get the Falcon Performance Manual it has alot of information about one and two barrel carbs, distributors and other valuable information.

68 was the first year the SCV/Load-O-Matic was discontinued. That said, everything on an old Bronco needs verified. Measure carefully for hood clearance. Not just anything will fit under the Bronco hood. Being happy with it the way it is, I wouldn't mess with it. Spend the money on better brakes etc, maybe power steering upgrade. But, it's your truck.
