Holley 5200 on 1970 big-log intake

250Mav and I were talking, and realized that my Stovebolt adapter isn't the same size as the bigger log intake (from a 1970 170ci).

What do I do? I love this carb and would like to make it work on the bigger hole. Are there any adapters for that?

Yep. Just get one so the diameters match what you have.

I found this one, but I'm not sure if a Holley 2300 has the same mounting as the one I got from Langdon.

How much bigger is the intake manifold hole? Might be able to open up the base of your adapter with a die grinder.

Old one is 1.5" hole, 2.68" bolt-to-bolt

New one is 1.75" hole, 3.25" bolt-to-bolt

I could try to adapt it, but I am not too sure it would work - I am afraid there is not enough material to "hold it in place" if that makes sense

the correct one is only like $14 from summit. that's what i have. its made by trans-dapt

i would just try to sell your current one on here, you could probably come pretty close to making your money back.

Well that didn't work as planned...

I got it today, and it's the exact same one I have currently (small 1bbl)

I could have sworn that the adapter said "large 1bbl" a few days ago, and now it says "small 1bbl"

250Mav is using the 2025 and you ordered the 2041? I am watching with interest as I have a D3 head and a bad 1101 carb so I am going to go the same route as you.

No, I ordered the 2025 (same as 250Mav's) and it is not right. I am now wondering if I should replace it with a 2041.

Well this is beginning to be a hassle...

I called Summit and the one I mentioned above (TRD-2041) is 2-15/16" from bolt to bolt. That is much less than the 3.25" it needs to be.

I called Clifford as well, because someone had mentioned them to me. They supposedly have a carb adapter for the small and large heads. So, I asked him about the large one. He said it's 3-5/8" from bolt to bolt. That is much too big. Will nothing work? So, then he told me that is really for the 38 DGES, not for the HW 5200.

I think I'm just going to make my own. I already have some aluminum stock, I just need a machinist.

Hardly. You need a drill, and gaskets that match both your log hole and your desired carb, A couple drill bits, a hole saw, and a rat tail file, and a hacksaw for final outer dimension shaping. I've made 2 so far using only these basic tools, one for a 32/36 onto a '68 200 and a second one for my tractor (small 1bbl to larger 1bbl with slight offset).

Due to network restrictions at my current location I can't verify that this works as none of the images show for me, but this thread

Sweet. I had seen FrankBoss' adapter, but I don't have access to a drill press vice. Even if I did, I wouldn't know all the angles and working that out and stuff. I did model up an adapter in Solidworks, and it turned out to be a 38* angle.

So how did you use the hole saw (on the drill) at an angle?

No, I hole sawwed out the main middle hole, then spent a few hours with a rat tail file opening up the middle at an angle. It was time well spent on my hobby.

hopefully im not going to take the any heat for a wrong part #, i was 100% sure that was the right piece. i got mine used so i cant say that i ordred it myself

It almost sounds to me like you're trying to mount the adapter directly to the log without using the spacer plate...If that's the case, I dont think there's an adapter out there that will mount directly to the log without the plate...I dunno, maybe i'm wrong

Right, I'm not using the spacer plate. But, was the original spacer plate tapered into a small 1bbl? I don't see why they would do that...

Psh, you're fine man. It just was too small, but I bet yours is the same, only scaled up a bit. No big deal, Summit was fine with returning it.
