How do I flush the system properly?

Ok, I need to know how to fully flush my coolant system. I opened the lower drain on the old radiator and drained as much as possible. Closed that and then pulled the lower hose off where it connects to the radiator. Got a little more out, but not much.

I tried putting the car into neutral and spinning the crank with a breaker bar to see if I could spin the water pump just enough to push fluid out...it didn't work.

Should I back the car out of the garage and hit the key to let the motor do its work? I've heard sixes can run for about half an hour with no coolant but I wanted to to make sure.

Put a hose in the inlet and start it up. Let it run for a while until it is only pumping out clear water.

you probably want to take the thermostat out for this exercise however, as it will never really open with a continual stream of cold water.

bought a flush kit from auto zone, did the supper flush thing for a couple days,,,hooked up garden hose flushed and then turn the hose down just enough to get the thermostat to cycle and got everything out
