HOW TO: custom engine mounts

What is involved in making engine mounts? Do you just hang the new engine you wanna fit in the bay on the crane, get the engine rake right then measure and make em? Or is it more of a science? What rules and regs are required in NSW

i watched someone do it on a show where they installed a Mustang II front suspension in an old Nova
they used a bare block, bolted up what they already had for mounts, then measured out the tubing and the braces

i'd suggest using a jack from the bottom to help stabilize it, and hooking up the tranny/crossmember so you have a guaranteed good point of reference (unless you're going to change that as well)
trying to measure while it's hanging... that just doesn't sound like a good idea to me, too easy to have it move somewhere

if i could find a place around sydney or closer to home around newcastle that could do such a job id love to go speak to em, just to find out how much

Last set I made (VG30 into datto sunny) was done by getting the body of the car sitting level and dropping the engine and box in and blocking it where i wanted it to sit
I got the correct rake by sitting a level on the intake manifold and lining up the rear of the box with the diff flange and then made my mounts

I used Sigma rubbers (very strong) and the rest was custom

On a carb engine the carb mounting surface MUST be level
