I cannot stand the stalling anymore.

Hi,

Since I installed a Holley 2bbl carburetor I have not had it tuned properly for very long. Lately, when I get the car started it stalls after about fifteen seconds. If I give it gas, it stalls. It takes several tries before it starts and does not stall. What should I be looking for to solve this problem?

Thanks,

Justin

I increased the idle speed and that seemed to help. Although, I feel that the idle speed it too fast. Also, I sometimes get a high pitched whistling coming from the carburetor when the idle speed screw is at a certain point.

Once its running, does it stay running? What if you´re approaching a stoplight?

when does that high pitch whistle from the carburetor area occur?

Sounds like some sort of a vacuum leak.

Did you check your plugs for evidence of lean condition?

of course, I might be totally wrong.

Check you FAST idle mix screw and speed. My car tends to stall some in the winter if I don't increase the FAST idle some.

I agree with Slade. It sounds like a fast idle setting and choke linkage problem. The fast idle will do essentially what you are doing by increasing the idle speed. The difference is that the fast idle engages only when the choke is activated. The fast idle screw usually resests on a cammed surface on the linkage with several steps on it that varies the idle speed depending on how much choke is applied.
