I got one!

All Americans are crazy, but we love you guys anyway!

First up, the wisdom of the OZ 2V /US 200/ Modern T5 or C5 swap is made known by the wide smiles from people such as Mustangaroo, his son Jason, Ricksmol, OffenokeeComet, Mraley, Kastang, Slade, AzCoupe. There are many others walking in there foot steps doing ArgieSP or ME or Aussie 2V head swaps onto US blocks and counting the costs. You should wait until they talk.

A few points to note

1. The Aussie 250 block is a liability unless it come with a Top loader or factory C4 in good shape. Any head separted from the block will need reconditioning and components to link to the US 200 or 250.

2. If you have to rebuild the block and transmission, the Aussie 250 2V with a C4 starts to look good.

3. Then it looks bad again becasue it won't fit under the hood of a Mustang without some work on a remote mount air cleaner

4. All people here who have done the 200 2V have eventually appreciated that there is a big cost involved in doing it yourself.

5. Out of the 23 or so 2V heads listed in a post by Mustagaroo back in 2002, about 35% of the buyers (about 6 people) ended up putting the heads on there car in two years. Of those, 4 or 5 are really happy. A few have opted out due to the cost. Now, there would be more than a dozen 2V 200's around.

6. The value of the complete and reliable 2V 250 package landed in America, could be a minimum of US$2500. The cost of doing a 2V head and American 200 or 250 block to suit is probably more than that.

7. Those who pay up front for the complete Head/Block/Bellhousing/Gearbox package would have a long term saving, but most Americans want a 200/T5 combination, and that is a lovely package.

8. Check out the Crossflow Chronicals by Jack Collins. He used good contacts in Australia to get his X-flow, and picked up the whole Head/Block/Bellhousing/Gearbox package and then rebuilt it himself, and added a great EFI package.

Enjoy the 2V ride, your gonna love it!

Have to disagree... The Oz block is not a liability IMO.

You can get a fully adjustable timing set for it (not true, US 250), bellhousings for all types of tranny with no adapter plates needed, aftermarket balancers, too. It's lighter and narrower than the US 250, and well-proven.

Ah, divergent opinions!

He he he.

Answer to Mr cikemini is that until we Aussies and Kiwis give you the swap equipement you need, the additional expense of shipping 250 2V and X-flow blocks is futher compounded because of the need for additional money on diffs and gearboxes.

thanks everyone for your input. i am planning on shipping the head and stuff with the help of AzCoupe out of melbourne. so it is a long trek over land from this small town in queensland to melbourne! anyone have any inexpensive shipping solutions closer to Wide Bay-Burnett, Queensland?

best,

michael

i was told by someone in australia that these air cleaners were quite rare? are they, and what would it be worth? i will probably end up using something more sporty.

Well, the last Oz T-5 bell I sourced cost equal to about USD$125 and is cable actuated, LH side. Exactly what many people want. When you start pricing adaptor plates, cable clutch conversions to bellhousings, it all becomes refreshingly cheap. Also, I rate the adjustable timing set as a nice item. The US crank nose could possibly be resized/keyed but this would need pricing.

If the 250-2V will fit under an early Falcon lid - why not a Mustang? The factory drop-base air cleaner was actually designed to develop flow. Picture doesn't help enormously but here goes:

It is supposed to work on the way fluid follows a certain path with a little intelligent design. The aftermarket air cleaners are a blunt object by comparison.

I also have a different view because it's the way I've had business practice drummed into me. You quantify everything before starting, allow appropriately for contingencies and it's set to roll. People sometimes don't understand why I haven't touched a project and I have to explain that the evaluation and work priorities are still in progress.

Michael - where are you shipping from - Victoria? If so, it might be worth grabbing it, and a couple of bells to be sure of options. If funds are short, then maybe not...

you've already got a header, right? if so i wouldn't bother with it if it's a pain to ship that as well

thanks xecute for your detailed response. I have decided to just get the head and intake. I have a good strong US 250 with C4 tranny with not alot of miles on it (originally in a 75 maverick) in my 63 falcon. it took a bit of work to get this engine in there (originally a 170/ford-o-matic), i do not want to have to deal with that again with a different block. my main reason for getting a 250 2v is this: if i want to add a 2 barrel carb to my engine it is not as easy as adding an adapter and bolting up a carb. i would have to remove the log head from the engine and have it milled down to make room for a 2 barrel carb because of height issues with a 250 engine...if i am going to go to the hassle of having machining done to a log head i feel i should just go ahead and get the 2v head and avoid putting $ into a log head and get better performance at the same time.

no i don't have a header yet. but, yeah it seems like a pain to ship and it is a single out, i want a dual out.
