my car doesnt like to start up in the mornings or when it is really cold out. I used to think that it was the carb, but I knew the choke was working and I knew that I had fuel going to the engine cause I can always smell it. thought I flooded it so I let sit for long time but still wouldnt start. then i thought well it doesnt like to start in the cold but when its warm outside no problem, never a problem but usually heat doesnt much make a difference with fuel so I thought about electronics hence the distributor.

ever since I figured this out my car would start up: by taking a lamp that just puts out lots of heat and I pointed it at the distributor and let is sit for 3-5 min no matter what I did with the car either flooding or havent even turned the key. after that time, she would start up just like that. no problem even if it was 30-40 degrees out with dense moisture and it has been like that for a week now and this is working just dont know why.

wires are fine, plugs good, coil in shape but I dont see any burns on the points. but again when its cold doesnt start but when I put the heat to the distributor it starts up. what could be the cause??

HI
Check the cap for cracks ............. take it off in the morning and see if there is any moisture in it..

Manual choke or elect or water??? It could be to tight that well make it not start as well. When you heat the dizzy is the hood open or closed?? if closed it well heat the whole under the hood and effect the choke as well..

I know you said the points weren't burned but perhaps they're due for replacement? I know that running a 40,000 Flamethrower coil to your points will wear them down faster - I think you're on the right track with ignition but it'll take some patience before you get to your solution so hang in there!!

As long as you have the P-tronix coil, put the ignition unit in as well. Mine fires right up all the time and possible moisture under the cap shouldn't affect it.

Coat all the electrical connections with dielectric grease! If you have a spray just blast the inside of your DRY, clean distributor.
