installing the larger clutch assemblies

Howdy All,

Just thinkin', is there a way to install the larger 10" or 10 1/2" clutch assembly in the high-mount starter 200. I know you can re-drill the 250 flywheel to 200 specs (Ak Miller), but will it fit the high-mount starter bellhousing. My bronco has a 9 1/2" or 9 3/4" clutch (a whole lot more expensive, too) and would like to run the larger and more avaliable (and cheaper) clutch assemblies. Appreciate it fellers. Have a good one.

You need to keep the corresponding bellhousing. You couldn't put a larger flywheel into your factory bellhousing. Even if it physically fit, your starter would not engage properly. Are you routinely killing cluthes? There is a diaphram style pressure plate you can use from the later 200 engines (ie. Fairmonts), and Centerforce also makes a disk you can use. The combination of those 2 should be able to take all the abuse your 200 can throw at it.

I do appreciate the info, kind sir. I see what you mean about the fixed starter position, naturally a larger flywheel will not work. I can't believe I did not pick that up.
