hi, i have a question... Is this engine a 200 or a 250ci??? i'm confused, ones says it's a 200 an others say it's a 250.. :?

Thanks.. and sorry for my bad english, i'm latinoamerican..

Guess it is a 200 but count the bolts first. That is a fox-body, isn't it? '79-'82 Mustang?

BTW, welcome to the forum.

:( "i can see" only 3 bolts :(
this car is a Ford Granada 1983 (from Venezuela).. it has a C4 Ford gearbox, and a 1 bbl carburetor Weber Motorcraft, cylinders rectific 0.30

i'm fanatic of the power acceleration and burnouts (don't like to much the high speeds).. but i think this engine hasn't to mucho power to make fast accelerations and burnouts... It has a dual free exhaust with two Machiangli mufflers.. (see photo). Others descriptions i can do for this engine is the "very slow" RPM :( (maximum 4000 RPM in neutral position... 3800 RPM in first gear, 3200 RPM in 2nd.. and succesively.. :x )
I admit it's a resistant engine, i have 2 years with it and dont have oil emanations and consumptions..

Ones says me that change it for a V8 302 HO and others says me that keeps it... :? really i don´t know what to do..

Looks like the carbs are different in the two pic's... did you change it out??
could need a tune up and timming adjustment.
Can you read the casting numbers on the intake It should start with like an E or D.

Yes man, i' ve changed the old carburetor 'cause it was damaged, the second carb is completely NEW.. and i dont think it need tune up.. i think

that tube goes to the heater core in thro the fire wall. from the first pic's of your motor your is just looped around.. both of those go to the heater core.. one to the top and the other to the bottom.. befor you hook it up there must have been a reason someone did that the heater core may be leaking... so befor I hooke them up I'd pull the core (accessed from inside the car inside the heater box) and check it out..

It still might need the timming adjusted.. to get power out of it...

My bet is that the heater was leaking, and you have air conditioning, so it would probably require taking out the dash to replace the core.
Lots of work. :wrench:
I have no A/C on my fox-body and it is a simple swap through the glove box.

I was comfused when I said it looks like it was just looped around in the first pic of your motor .... but I was thinking of anothere post......
It may go thro the carb base plate or the old choke housing then to the heater. but it supplies hot water to the heater.

Do you think my engine can take more power if i replace the actual ignition coil for this "Red" Bosch of 28.000V??? the coil i'm using has more than 6 years.. (i bought that car 6 years ago) and that coil never has damaged or failed.. it must be of 12.000V... do you think the replacement of that old ignitioncoil for this new Bosch "red" of 28.000V will give me more power?? :D :D

I wouldn't expect to see huge gains, but you may see some.

If your motor won't rev above 4k in neutral - there is something wrong with it.

naw, 4k is pretty much the limit of the log intake and old springs.

Had the same in my old capri, would rev up to 4k then just hit a wall.

You can make decent power out of that engine, but you have to follow the right steps, and expect to be doing a bit of work now and then.

You can search and read through the posts on this site, but first things first, do a good tune up. new cap and rotor, plugs (gapped properly to .40 thousanths of an inch if I remember correctly), plug wires and timing set to 12* btdc.

then make sure your carb is properly tuned. Many threads on this, just use the search feature at the top.

then you start looking at things like, 2 barrel carb, head work (3 angle valve job, new springs and adjustable rockers), and a new cam.

It is a good reliable engine though. don't be sad it's slow now, they can be quite quick cars. See posts by does10's and link200

Odd, Because my ranchero will rev above 4k in gear without too much problem, and its a completely stock 200.

The old motor would as well, and it was stock too.

it's like the engine is of truck (low rev) 'cause the sound in 3500 Rpm is like it's the maximum.. accelerator pulled at maximum from 0 kmh in "drive" position (auto C4 gearbox) is:

1st to 2nd gear take Máx 3300 - 3500 Rpm
2nd to 3rd gear take Máx 2800 - 3000 Rpm

to take the 4000rpm i have to make shifts manually..

men, if you listen the sound of my engine at 3500 rpm you think it'll blow off :? :(

people says me the 302 HO has 5500 rpm being "stock"
then, why my 200 "hardly" take 4000rpm??

i've bought new ignition accesories to make a tune up for my car, i hope it takes more power (spark plugs, ignition coil, and distributor cap, and tomorrow gonna buy Accel 8mm spark plug wires).. (things i've bought are on the next photo)

I don't know if I've said this but check to see if your getting enough fuel as well...
do the plugs and wires one at a time so you don't get them mixed up...(that has happened).. and agian check the timming 12* BTDC at idle.

if the carb is not tuned right it could hit a wall, my issue was both a flakey carb and worn vavle springs. I know the sound he's talking about, at 4K it sounds like the rods are going into orbit., I had it on my capri.

My suggestion is after a good tune up, make sure the time is set. this can stop it from revving right as well, then check the carb for basic tunning. make sure there is not ticking coming from the head area.

These engines can rev pretty good when they are built right. Don't let your friends bust on you too much. All you have to do is show them some time slips from some of the guys around here and they won't be talking all about 302's anymore.

This engine is lighter and can produce a ton of torque and that will make your car very peppy once tuned right.

I'm not try to tell you to keep your 6, just trying to convince you that you WANT to keep your 6

as alot of guys here will say, these little motors get addictive, they will take abuse that most engines won't and it's fun to squeeze the power out of them.
