Junk Yard near Houston Texas

64.5 TX Stang

Well-known member
Does anybody know where one is? I am pretty new to the area and would like to look for a newer head for my engine.

Thanks,

Andrew

Try williams auto salvage. They had my EO head and they warrant all their parts. A very good business, I would recommend them first.

Houston is HUGE. I wouldn't tell you to look for parts in Tomball if you live by Alameda.

What part of town are you in?

Its over on N. Shepard.

I actually pass through katy on my way to get there, it probably takes about 30 minutes from where you live.

When I drive there, it takes me almost 2 hours. Consider yourself lucky. One day I actually spent 8 hours on the road driving to houston, then pasadena, then all the way to austin, then back home just for parts.

I would call them and make sure they have what you want. You can even search online. They are very helpful, I would recommend them above everyone.

My head cost me about 65.00. They warranty their parts for 91 days, so its a good deal.

ihavea68stang - what part of Texas are you from, I make the drive up to Federickburg, though Auston all of the time to visit my wife's family.

I go down Hwy 6 to the Spring-Tomball area pretty regularly. If you want me to look between there and Waco let me know.

Thanks for the offer Linc's, but I rarely make it up that direction. Interestingly I ound a small town salvage yard near my wifes hometown and they have an online search. It turns out that they have a 1980, and a 1981 head there. My only question is how much to pay. Some of the guys on the board say about $25, but these are priced at $60. ALthough they may already be pulled from the cars. So I guess my question is $60 a reasonable price?

Aren't the price differences relative to the amount of the yard's "investment", to a degree?

If it's an old style junkyard where they aren't sure, and there's acres of stuff, then the lower end prices are right. If it's a newer place with recycling programs, pollution control measures, online presence and stock records, then the higher prices are more correct.

I've gone 20 miles across town only to find yard operators can't translate the date codings and their product is not at all what I wanted. Who knows this won't be the case?

If they can read you the D- or E- code off the log, then it's a start. Also find out what you get for the $60. If it includes a rocker assembly and thermostat housing, say, the value is better...

I think so, if it is in decent shape.

I have never had a wrecker refuse the minor "peripherals" from a cylinder head so that is pretty much guaranteed. If you talk to the guy right he may even let you keep the carburetor and exhaust manifold.

I'm from Bellville, its a small town off of Hwy 36. If you take I-10 out west, you exit at Sealy. I'm actually living in Austin at the moment, I'm a 1st year business student at UT.

If you've ever had Blue Bell Ice Cream, its close to Brenham, where it is made.

Good luck finding your part. I believe $60 is a good price for a head that is already off a car. One guy quoted me $180, and I had to find and pull it myself.. yeah right..
