how important is my kickdown cable??
its not werking now is all loose and well come out of its sorta casing at the carby end... i was just gonna fix that back up and job done, or is this a technical job and will need lots of annoying fine tuning/adjustments??

Matt, the kickdown cable is everything to a BW auto. Get it fixed by an auto tranny specialist. Pay the money, and get it done now! Or save up big ones for a Ford C4 or perhaps a Toyota 5-speed Supra gearbox. The risk is you'll cook your trans with the kickdown out of sync.

The kickdown cable in a wrongly adjusted state will kill a BW auto, mainly because there is little reserve strength.

Ask Valiant owners about what a mild 265 will do to a Borg Warner auto.....munt-city!

hmmmm, well im glad i asked :) .... ill get it done str8 away.... would love a 5spd conversion but money doesnt allow atm
cheers!!

Matt,
With the kickdown cable. It controls throttle pressure in the transmission and the strength of the selection of the gear. If it is too loose/incorrect the trans will burn out from clutch pack slippage.
Drop in to your local mechanic/trans expert. the adjustment should take only a minute.
Noel.

rang around today..... about 10$ to adjust cable.... $105 if it needs replaceing...... $185 to replace and service g/box at same time.... dunno if tha service is worth it for tha price? hopefully can just be adjusted.

Soundz good. Just get it adjusted meantime.

My V8 buddies thought the 200 dollars I spent on getting my BW auto fitted with a properly adjusted VH Valiant kickdown cable to suit the Carter-style Holley 2-bbl I was running was just dumb. Martin (XF 289 with Overdrive Toploader 4-speed) reckoned it wouldn't last six months the way I thrashed it. "A good XD C4's only 250 ping!".

Its been 3 years, his 289 is scrap, and his XF is still having a wild 302 made for it. My too-small for a 'Coon BW is still going fine!

ditch the bw gearbox there a heap of shit there barley able to handle the power of a stock six i picked up a c9 trans with a stage2 shift kit from wholesale automatic for under 800 bucks

recently i replaced a kick down cable on a XF

the cable only cost 10bucks and more transmission fluid is like 30 bucks

its easy enough to do yourself

Oh, it's a Dunedin joke.

We're all of Scottish background down here, and the most important thing is being a tight arse, and never spending a cent more than you have to. In America, people moan about how much they have to spend, in Oz, about how much they get taxed, but in Dunedin, NZ, they boast about how many dollars you can knock off the asking price.

OverDose, don't embarass me by saying your not Scottish... your better at cutting a deal than any person I know!

on my old auto the kickdown was strecthed and couldnt be adjusted so i took the bracket off and lengthened it to give me enough play to be able to adjust it made the tranny go for another 6 months then i replaced it with a manual

cheap cheap is the key save the cash for a manual

cheers

haha

i was born in england though

Almost as good. For a few rifles and sheep skins, your ancestors got a whole country! (New Zealand)

Go the South Pacific Poms...

More proof that Prisoners Of Mother England are smart.

They give the Moaris a contract for the conditional co-habitation of a country, give the fundational document (The Treaty of Waitangi ) no legal status, and then set up a Tribunal that gives all Moaris a shot a recompense. The tribes that got payoffs in 1990 to date will be pennyless in 2090, so who looses? Not the English.

Mind you, most Maoris are smart enough to know that the Privy Council, the last bastion of the Empire, is still heard in England when Kiwis are real pi**ed with the legal system. So they will always get a chance to moan over grievances. I'm about 1/64 from my Breathran Gran Ma who used to be called Queenie by her friends. She was like real dark. My birth mum is real dark too. I'm not, though. I'm peaved 'cause I want to have a few acres of Northland mana to call my own, but my Gran wouldn't associate with her tribe.

How the heck did I get on to this?

'Cause some cheap beggar cut a better deal on a kickdown cable than me.

On with the Show Addo, OverDose and Co

ADDO not quite as crazy as these kids who spend thousands on honda civics,in 20 years all they will have left is a cup of rust to play with.

back to the subject, i rooted my xd auto by not fixing this problem or was
it driving it like a manual ,luckly it was under warranty at the time.

as for XECUTE , hes crazy no doubt about it .must be to far from the equator

cheers dave 67xr6
