Well I been thinking I really want to keep my car for a long time. I was wondering if anybody has done a late model v6 motor swap in this old cars like a mustang from 79-05. It was just something I was thinking of doing a few years.
8) aka a bent 8 minus two cylinders. yes such a thing does exist jackfish. perhaps one day we will bring you into the world of modern technology, though i see we will have to do it slowly.
yes a V6 has been swapped into the early cars, but they dont last any longer than our little straight sixes. remember that you practically need a nuclear detonation to damage one of our inlines, and even then with a new battery and a fresh condenser it will run again. you can however update your inline with modern fuel injection if you like, with a little work.
NOT to mention the amount of time effort and money you would put into such a job. I would think that for quite a sum less you can get your inline freshly overhauled and a setup for fuel injection done very nicely. it would last a long time just as the engine has already. or get the pony carb or yours rebuilt buy a good place and it would be even cheaper and still give a lot longer lifespan to the car.
IIRC the 3.8L V6's in the 1983 to 1998 Mustangs are notorious for blowing head gaskets.
I think it was about 1999 model that switched to the SOHC model and it fixed the head gasket problem.
If you got a V6 I would find a good quality head gasket and use some ARP studs.
I like the idea of a modern inline six with EDIS ignition and EFI better. Hard to beat a inline six for low end torque and the 200 (3.3L) is almost bulletproof in reliability. Add the aluminum head and you can hit similar power levels.
Even more fun would be a low compression supercharged engine that can run on regular pump gas.
