Hi - I am new to the inline 6 ford engines, and I hope someone can answer a few questions. Vehicle 1967 Mustang inline six
How do I determine if I have a load o matic distributor? It is an auto lite distributor with the number c8ui 1227 bh stamped on it and I can't cross-reference the numbers.
the vacuum advance has a threaded end on it

second question is how I determine CI displacement I have 5 freeze-plugs and 4 bolts on the water pump I can't be certain there are 4 but I think so.

casting number points to a 1978-1980 block

I went down a few rabbit holes looking for the info, judging by the shape of the valve cover and the number of freeze plugs, I believe it is a 250
Any help would be appreciated
 
If you pull the cap on the distributor, try to turn the rotor by hand in the direction of normal rotation; if you can turn it a few degrees with light to moderate pressure it is not a load-o-matic. If you can't turn it; most likely then it's a load--matic.
 
Hi, the 250 has a 4 bolt water pump. All of the other sixes have a 3 bolt pump. The LOL has a thin pancake style vacuum advance canister. The later distributors have a cone shaped vacuum advance canister. The distributors will interchange on all but the earliest engines. What car do you have? We have a tech section with all the information about these engines. Good luck
 
According to my Handbook casting numbers chart, that is a 250 block. A good head too, large log and bigger intake valves. Probably not an old LOM distributor on that newer block and head, but idiocy abounds. Some pictures of the distributor with the cap and rotor off should tell for sure. What carburetor is on the car? Again, probably not the old SCV 1100 on that newer block and head. An 1100 would need an adaptor to go on that head.

Yes as stated previously 250 with the 1420 cfm head so all good. What transmission? Any other details?
 
When you can please post pictures of your motor mounts. Motor mounts for getting a 250 into early Mustangs are often discussed with great interest around here. The 250 not only has a lot of torque but has another big advantage in that it can attach to a sbf transmission.

Thanks for the info... I believe it had the auto lite 1100 on it with an adapter plate. Original owner probably wanted to keep a stock appearance that's why I think the dist is a LOM. My Friend bought the car and upgraded to the Holley sniper and it runs like crap ... ran poorly before but now worse, can't do above 40 mph. On the Holley install instructions, it clearly says the sniper isn't compatible with the LOM. I drove it and it feels like the timing is way off unfortunately the marks on the balancer are gone so I will time it by ear. I would like to upgrade to HEI or duraspark the sniper distributor is 600$ Any suggestions on where to purchase a distributor kit ? I tried calling classic in lines the number doesn't work .

so, it turns a bit . feels like it's just moving enough foe the gear to make contact
