I AM BUILDING A 1967 MUSTANG COUPE WITH A 200CI. I WANT THE CAR TO BE A DAILY DRIVER BUT STILL HAVE SOME PEP. THIS IS MY FIRST CLASSIC AND I WANT TO DO IT RIGHT. I AM IN AFGHANISTAN RIGHT NOW, BUT IM COMING HOME SOON. GOT TO GET IT GOING FAST. OH AND ALSO WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK ABOUT HAVING IT BORED 30 OVER. IVE BEEN DISCUSSING IT WITH SOME OF THE GUYS HERE AND ITS 50/ 50. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT. JUST NEED A PLACE TO START.

I'm gonna let the other guys give you the rundown on hop-up tips, but I wanted to address the .030 boring issue. Quite frankly, you should only bore that engine if it needs it. The horsepower gain isn't that much and isn't worth it. And you may actually NEED to bore the engine one day (or perhaps now) due to wear or damage. That's the only reason I'd bore a block...

I think some guys boast about an engine being bored out, but it's usually BS intended to impress others.

Come home safely! :)

Woo hoo, barrows and gilts up in 7 major markets! Welcome to the finishing lot. Are you with the Kabul Pork Producers Council? Very small group, that.

If you want the true poo, order the Falcon Six Handbook through the link below. It will give you some good reading during the rest of your tour. Then you will be full of ideas when you get back. The best part is his rundown of hop up ideas starting from lowest to highest cost, i.e. free to the sky's the limit. And he talks about boring out cylinders too. You will need a personal check to order it.

I second the NO Boreing... unless you have to... you don't gain that much.. on my 460 a .030 over bore only nets 6 cubes.. You'll get the most out of head work, cam, exhaust and carb upgrades..

def buy the book. But just to keep the conversation going I'd say do a straight rebuild with a good balance and all the basic tips included in the book (zero the deck, etc). Install an aggressive cam (not crazy, just aggressive), and then seriously consider what to do with your head. No, I don't mean that there is something wrong with your head because you want ot spend a bunch of money on a rusty old car, that part is obvious, but you are in good company. I mean that most of the power to be gained is locked in the head. The stock head is garbage, but if you want to make a stock looking classic restoration, there is a lot you can do to it. Here is a link to what I did with mine:

It turned out to cost well over a grand. With those numbers, the new aluminum head starts to look very attractive. If its power you want, that's where to put the big money. Next I would focus on the transmission. There are a lot of choices, and what you choose will have a significant impact of performance.

hey thanks for the tips guys! as i was reading your answer my wife infored me over the insta chat that my ford falcon performance book had just arrived. i ordered that from classic inlines. does anyone know any other good sited that carry alot of parts for that engine. also i dont know about any kabul prk council. im just a poor country boy who worked on a pig farm until i decided to go wave rifles around with the 82nd airborne division.

I don't have any performance advice that hasn't already been said, but I did a tour in your neck of the woods (Paktika province) a few years back, so I thought I'd say good luck, and godspeed on the trip back.
