Lose Shim 200CI ?

Hi, needing some help with this. building a 200 for a friend and everything going well till tightened down the bolt for the cam gear It locked up the cam. Using a Comp gear and chain, looked at the instructions and the break down shows a lose shim that goes over the cam snout and behind the thrust plate. Wasn't there when I disasembled and my friend dosen't remember It years back when he built It. Went to a Ford dealer and they pulled It up on microfish and there It was. Of course It's a discontinued item. Has anyone run into this?. What can I do to fix this problem?. Thanks in advance.

hmmm...know what you are talking about...makes me wonder if I put mine back in.

On most cams, there is a spacer ring behind the drive pin that has to be swapped to the new cam. Without it the cam gear clamps down onto the retainer whn you tighten it up.
