After over 6 months waiting at last my, foam finer filter finally arrived. I went with the 9 by 3 inch because my nine by two is not enough to flow air properly at 4800-5000 rpm with 250 2V (intended rpm).
Checked again last night and I have less than 1/4 of an inch between flat 4 TD hood and air cleaner with the two inch filter. The only way I can get the 3 inch on under the Hood and keep it a sleeper is to get rid of the 1/2 inch spacer. (cant put on scoop because of stepped uneven surface on hood). Removing the spacer still wont be enough so Ill need to cut away the top of the manifold and insert a thinner spacer (2 or 4 bbl) welded partially down into the manifold with tapped holes for the carby to bolt directly on. I think Ill still have about 1 and 1/4 inches from the underside of the spacer for the fuel to exit into the runners.
I think this will be OK. Just thought Id check with you all first?

Dont do it tim thats why i gave you the six bonnet for use it instead .
You will kick you self if you reck that manifold and it wont be easy to replace

The six bonnet will give no extra clearance where I need it. Because the 2V manifold extends out so far the bulge on the six bonnet gives no benefit at all for clearance (probably not so with orig log head).
I could go for a 9 by 2 K&N filter that flows more, this may be OK (I dont know).
Execute says and 6 by 3 and 1/2 inch is OK for 4750 rpm. This has 70 square inches of filter (I have measure them both). A 9 by 2 (same as yours I think) although it looks bigger has only 56 square inches, its a bit deceptive.
I dont think it will reck the manifold as an 1 1/4 inches in the manifold is very close to the 32 mm ports that some of the crossflows had.
Maybe if I sell it it may be a problem but at the rate these heads are dissapearing I have no plans to get rid of it even if I oneday change to a crossflow.

Go a Plexi bonnet with XB/XC nostrils grafted. Seriously, which is worth more - the panel or the manifold or the hp? Make an economic decision.

I will have to put a hump into my XM bonnet for the triple SU's - it will look cool, IMO.

My 250 2V engine with manifold and extractors cost $250 Aust. breaks down to $100 for head $50 for bottom end and $50 for manifold $50 for extractors. Hows this, it didnt come with a carb and it cost me $200 for an old reco 2bbl stromberg.
Must have been Hot. I think your right I wont butcher it.

I find it funny Tim i have the same bonnet and have a 1/2 inch spacer under the drivers side engine mount.
We share the same engine ,manifold and carb and mine dosnt hit .
Are you sure that the six bonnet isnt sightly higher over the creases and dont forget that the old log engine had quite a large air cleaner as the falcon did and ford whould have aloud for that.
An old friend of mine had a cross-flow in a 4cly td and it used to hit the bonnet all the time then put the six one on (bobs your uncle ) no more hitting.
And the only reason ive got a spacer is to stop the manifold from hitting the vacum pipe on the boster ,but ive shortion that bracket now so i better take it out again.
CHEERS GSpack
p.s give us a call tim and we will chat about this prob

Almost forgot
those bonnet graft look sh#t hot never seen one on a corty yet but heaps on xp/xm and even the xd-xf good idear but can you after market one the old bonnets are getting hard to get ,unless you get a glass one made and then you can get ride of a lot the bracing which will give more room again
